It seems to me that the way to do it is to pick a topic or theme and just build on it. If it is a personal chronicle of some sort just stick to logging pertinent stuff. If you are serious that is.

In my own case ... I find that I get pretty bored with limitations of any sort and so I never tried to contain or restrict the topics I post on. As time goes on my interests evolve and change so it follows that the content and topics in this blog change. It's all pretty random and unstructured, but I like it that way.

In the matter of personal life events I've never been too keen on talking about myself because it just shouldn't matter. In my personal life I treat a lot of things as either "category=my business" or "category=something I want you to know". In the blogging world my approach is basically that there are things I see that deserve some commentary and I want people to know about them.

This does not mean that I expect everyone to care or even anyone for that matter.

So it follows that with my low (non existent) expectations on anyone who chooses to read my thoughts or share the materials I link to, I never had any inclination to share much in the way of personal stories.

Until now. For some reason I've gotten the urge to offer some things that have made a profound difference in my own life.

So ...

It has been about two years since I found out that I had cancer. There are two pertinent things about this. First, that I had to have surgery as soon as possible to assess the nature and extent of the cancer and subsequently that I had little hope of a happy outcome.

The surgery I had nearly killed me. Without going into gory detail, the plan was that I would go under four hours to have my abdomen opened and my liver exposed for biopsy and possible hepatectomy at the site of the tumor. As it turned out the cancer could not be safely removed. I did however get the benefit of having my moribund gallbladder removed. The story of that could consume pages and I don't see any point at this time of going down that road.

My post surgery expectations were that I'd be in post surgery ICU recovery about 24 hours and then 10 days or so of observation before going home. The reality was something quite different.

What happened was that I woke up later in the evening apparently feeling pretty good, reading some magazines and watching TV. I had visitors that night and slept until the next morning. In the morning I had the TV on and then I passed out and stopped breathing. Apparently I had about ten minutes to live before my heart started pumping properly and I stabilized. At that point I was wheeled into emergency surgery where they opened me up to check for bleeds or other damage. There was nothing found and they stitched me up inside and shot another 40 staples into my abdomen.

This is where things got weird.

I went into a coma. There was no waking me out of it and everyone was (so I was told) having a fit about what to do. There were several attempts to wake me up that were aborted because I was reacting almost violently with extremely high blood pressure and heart rate. This scared the staff and they put me back under to prevent me from possibly having a stroke. Personally I've felt this was a CYA action because I remember when I was waking up and hearing the instructions, first to me to open my eyes then to the nurse to shut down the stimulant and shoot me with sedative.

Over the course of seven days this was repeated 3 times and each time it was the same thing. I was told later by a doctor that I had clocked him in the jaw during the second effort to bring me out of the comma. I guess that was why I was in restraints when I eventually did come out. At the end of the week the plan had changed to keeping me under (or simply not bothering to wake me up) and to wait out the coma or let me vegetate.

Lucky for me, my wife had other ideas.

To be continued...
Sometimes there is just nothing to capture a guy's interest and then those wheels turn another just enough to put a few too many objects of potential fun and mayhem into view!

And so it is that one of my favorite things from the past has been resurrected and thrown in front of my brain's impulse center of lust for materialistic gratification.

If you are so naive as to believe what media morons write about science. If you think politicians and bureaucrats actually know what they are talking about or care when they begin using "science" as an excuse to interfere in your life.

But beyond these circumstances there is the fundamental question of whether scientific researchers are more interested in promoting their work for funding and personal agendas than they are in actually learning and developing fields of knowledge.

However, it seems that chickens are coming home to roost:

From: Borepatch

Study: American public doesn't trust scientists

Excerpt ....
So a Psychologist and Public Affairs Professor says that the way to address mistrust caused by the perception of agenda-driven science and featherbedding is by pushing an environmentalist agenda and slick talking. Riiiight. Good idea.
Maybe the public's concern about the monomaniacal thirst for grant funding is right, and warps how science is done? From an old post of mine, Make Big Money doing climate research from home:
Well, I don't know about the "work from home" part, and whether you need to stuff envelopes, but the money's sweet: $79B since 1989, just from the US Fed.Gov. Add in the fellow traveler Euro.Govs and you've maybe doubled that.
Note that's "B" as in "Billion". Skim a lot off the top for Department of Energy and other bureaucrats, and there's plenty of cold hard cash, as long as you toe the line
Or perhaps it's an awareness that scientists are not playing straight with the public?

Barfoot ... The Story NOBODY in the Media Bothered to TellThis Story was found on Small Dead Animals Blog

Van T. Barfoot died
Remember the guy who wouldn't take the flag pole down on his Virginia
property a while back? You might remember the news story several months
ago about a crotchety old man in Virginia who defied his local
Homeowners Association, and refused to take down the flag pole on his
property along with the large American flag he flew on it. Now we learn
who that old man was.
On June 15, 1919, Van T. Barfoot was born in
Edinburg , Texas . That probably didn't make news back then.
But twenty-five years later, on May 23, 1944, near Carano , Italy ,
that same Van T. Barfoot, who had in 1940 enlisted in the U.S. Army, set
out alone to flank German machine gun positions from which gunfire was
raining down on his fellow soldiers. His advance took him through a
minefield but having done so, he proceeded to single-handedly take out
three enemy machine gun positions,
returning with 17 prisoners of war.
And if that weren't enough for a day's work, he later took on and
destroyed three German tanks sent to retake the machine gun positions.
That probably didn't make much news either, given the scope of the
war, but it did earn Van T. Barfoot, who retired as a Colonel after also
serving in Korea and Vietnam , a well deserved Congressional Medal of
Honor.
What did make news...Was his Neighborhood Association's quibble with
how the 90-year-old veteran chose to fly the American flag outside his
suburban Virginia home. Seems the HOA rules said it was OK to fly a flag
on a house-mounted bracket, but, for decorum, items such as Barfoot's
21-foot flagpole was "unsuitable". Van Barfoot had been denied a permit
for the pole, but erected it anyway and was facing court action unless
he agreed to take it down.
Then the HOA story made national TV, and the Neighborhood Association rethought
its position and agreed to indulge this aging hero who dwelt among them.
"In the time I have left", he said to the Associated Press, "I plan to continue
to fly the American flag without interference."
As well he should.

And if any of his neighbors had taken a notion to contest him further,
they might have done well to read his Medal of Honor citation first.
Seems it
indicates Mr. Van Barfoot wasn't particularly good at backing down.
This 1944 Medal of Honor citation, listed with the National Medal of
Honor Society, is for Second Lieutenant Van T. Barfoot,157th Infantry,
45th Infantry.OMMAGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05475151103850378778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18739280.post-7593056742374925842014-09-27T08:58:00.000-05:002014-09-27T08:58:49.295-05:00It's a Simple PlanOne that has played out time and again ....

Junior (Russ) and me just got back from about 5 thousand km of driving. We got to spend about four days visiting family and friends in south western Ontario and the trip was book ended by two marathons at the wheel.

The first stint was taken out of Winnipeg and across the north side of the Great Lakes. Thanks to road construction on hwy 17 that part of the trip took at least 4 hours longer than planned and also took a toll on our energy levels. Poor Russ got a cold and suffered his way through the week. It also affected his chances to meet cousins and get to know them a bit. Russ missed out on some very good visits with my old friends and especially a surprise 60th birthday bash with some guitar pickin' boys from Nova Scotia and a few Newfs to spice up the story telling.

As for me it was all pretty good once we got there. Dragging my butt around jut a bit but still managed to see most of the people I had hoped to see.

The stretch back was a bit better thanks to US roads being better cared for and even the construction zones being less of an impediment. A few encounters with deer at night with deer in Michigan and WI were had but we managed to avoid collisions and getting too close to them. While Minnesota managed to do a damned poor job of marking one road diversion so even locals were completely caught out by the F&ck Up. Nothing like going to work at 6am and getting trapped in a dead end road closure eh? A little palaver with two young fellows led to an improvised detour route on back roads and eventually put us all back on US hwy 2 into Grand Forks.

All things considered, I would avoid doing any more of those marathon drives but there are still a couple trips I'd like to take.

It is understandable when parents and family show support for their children, brothers and sisters or friends by holding their hands and cheering them on through the trials of life. It is quite another thing when others assume the right or role of speaking or acting on behalf of individuals through the process of labeling, categorizing or relegating people to groups. It does not matter what the criteria are that busybodies and meddlers use to judge and 'pidgeon hole' people. The fact is that this is inherently an evil and soul killing act of contempt for the individuals they presume to take under their own wings. (more like tentacles).

Everything from the phenomenon of "Participation Awards" to pushing lower academic standards to "Inclusiveness" events is part of this psychology of the self appointed meddlers. Effectively a relentless propaganda campaign by collectivists to rob people of their individuality and pride of accomplishment. Perhaps not intentional but certainly evil in destructiveness that is the result.

Captain Capitalism on the Efforts of Collectivists to Kill The Individual

And this gets to the truly disgusting, criminal, even outright evil
aspect of these "appreciation months" - It destroys and murders the
individual by replacing individual accomplishment and achievement with a
trait you were born with.

It's important that all people of all groups understand this because
there is a genuine evil out there that wishes to destroy the one thing
you have in life - yourself. And if you don't understand this and
realize the threat this poses to your life, you will waste your one
precious life on this planet.

In 1872 the Toronto Typographical Union's members went to the streets to protest for reduced working hours (58 hour week) and the Toronto Trades Assembly called on 27 other unions to go on strike in support of the typesetters.

The whole thing got messy because Canada had laws restricting certain labour/union activities and the Toronto Globe Newspaper had an editor George Brown who was a past Premier of Canada West and founding father of Confederation had those laws enforced and about 30 organisers were arrested.

As a result in the following year the Liberal PM John A. MacDonald rammed the Trade Union Act through parliament and the slippery slope of escalating union demands and socialist government responses was entered with the predictable results which we are forced to suffer under to this day.
Who Cares?15 year old Tina Fontaine was murdered and dumped in the Red River.

So now the hand wringing ramps up among the "Caring Class" of professional "caring persons" along with the de rigueur lectures to the rest of us about our failings in the realm of caring.
So who really cares?
Well for starters, what remains of and passes for "family" in the distorted and dysfunctional world of native child care and foster care.

Also, at least 2000 folks who came to a Vigil in remembrance of the 15yr old.

And, quite likely many more people who are fed up with the violence and brutality of the street culture in native communities. Especially the systemic, welfare, crime and gangsterism that perpetuates these abhorrent abominations that make their way into the fabric of our society.

Of course, if you are a Mainstream Media hack of the all too typical lib/prog/fem ilk then nobody cares or if they do care they care not enough. Because as we should all know by now ... Nobody Cares Like They Do! (Heather Malick )

Compassion? Hardly. Just another opportunity for the self important harridan to convince herself of her delusional superiority.

Aside from taking short trips to the lakes or parks and performing smokey BBQ experiments the most notable thing that happened to me in the last month is that I sneezed on my laptop screen and produced a perfect "Big Dipper" pattern.

This is how summer should be.

But it would have been nice to see the "Perseids" this year ....

A so called "complaint" about underage workers was filed against a Saskatchewan farm family and their business.

They are now under investigation by bureaucrats for violations of health and safety and labour practices.

This is a perfect example of how useless people in government jobs are incapable of having or using common sense. It also demonstrates the need for DEEP cuts to public payrolls and radical simplification or outright elimination of the empowering regulations that these parasites thrive on.

The owners of a farm in east-central Saskatchewan say they're shocked
they are being investigated by the province after it received a
complaint about minors working in the family's processing business.

"I was flabbergasted," Janeen Covlin said about the
investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Division (OHS). "Our
whole farm vision was to include our kids."
Hometown visit with family and friends and pick up a special little item that I own but have yet to see.

In the face of the imminent (and long over due) Israeli military response to the incessant attacks by the Arab terrorists, Hamas ramped up their local rocket attacks overnight. In the usual ham fisted attempt to prove how brave and strong they are, the Death to Jews gang repeats the same old pattern of futile and murderous antagonism against Israel.

Personally, I hope that the Israeli IDF flatten the Gaza strip.
Always brushing aside or simply ignoring the obvious questions and warnings about consequences they spend there every effort bashing conservative governments and policies while completely ignoring the hypocrisy and bald faced dishonesty of their pet LIBERAL politicians.
Well today is a day of Consequence for one such progressive scold as the chickens come home to roost in her own precious little patch of heaven.

You
may not have heard of Midhurst, but what the Ontario Government decides
to do here should matter to all who believe that farmland and nature
are more than places waiting to be paved, and that local communities should have a say in how they grow and change.

The
special loophole, designed just for Midhurst, is the opposite of
everything the Ontario Places to Grow Act was designed to do -- protect
farmland and stop unsustainable, sprawling mega-developments. Our story
is a warning that the unsustainable sprawl that has devoured nearly half
of our farmland in Ontario, and has irreparably damaged precious
natural areas, will continue along this destructive path unless we speak
out.

During the Ontario Provincial Election, Premier
Wynne met with a few members of our community. She appeared concerned
and promised that if elected she would review the development plan. We
now plan to hold Premier Wynne to her promise, and with the support of
tens of thousands of people we hope she will be convinced to close the
loophole.

As
a mother, I knew that I had to try to preserve the future of our
community, our farms and our natural areas. I got involved because
there has to be a better alternative than to sacrifice so much to the
benefit of just a few people who, as Margaret Atwood put it, stand to
make a lot of money. Please

Massive disgust among everyone with more than 1/2 a brain.

Very
short lived elation among White LIberal's who will not be able to
Exactly when did this issue or that concern or some grievance of the mind become so important that all of society must pay attention NOW and take steps to amend our ways? How and when did we become so evil and uncaring?

The answers to these questions are irrelevant.

Why are they irrelevant?

Because the underlying premises that give rise to such questions are not based on any reality of our world but rather on the ideas and world views of venal grievance mongers whose methods are to pander to and inflame the the weak minded, self flagellating and perpetual misfits and malcontents of society.

Underlying each and every one of these calls for change is a failure that is not a failing of our society but failed ideas and individuals who cling to those ideas in desperation. Their desperate need is to seek accommodation from all of society rather than to deal with their own failings. To be sure, many of these sort view themselves as rebels or revolutionaries fighting for some ephemeral concept of justice. There is however nothing new or revolutionary about any of their thinking or actions.

For those of us who question the dogma of the malcontents or the motivation of panderers we are often told either that it is our views that are lacking depth and integrity or that we are simply living in "Different Times". Different times require different ways of doing things and different attitudes. Don't you know? It only follows then that we should adopt the views of those who reject the successful foundational ideas that actually allowed our society to grow and prosper! RIGHT?

Hogwash!

The only thing different about these times we live in and any other time is that the voices of the malcontents and the rabble that they influence have been on the ascending path. They shout louder and complain more bitterly while otherwise good and reasonable people cringe and look the other way. Those of us (with few exceptions) who should be strong enough to say "ENOUGH" are distracted and unwilling to engage the lunatic ranters. Those who should be supporting honesty strength and character are trying to keep out of the way.

None of that is fundamentally different from any other time in our modern Western Culture.
It is just the same old shit being shoveled from the Aegean stables. The job is never done and it never changes. There is no Herculean solution. There is only the work of keeping the streets clean and the foundations of the world free from the undermining vermin.

The foundational priorities of our society were never wrong. They are the basis for success and prosperity for all. The only people who dispute this are perpetual misfits who never will be satisfied.

Times change they say! And the more they change the more they remain the same.

In the typical commie mode of smearing anything that smacks of success .... especially American Success ... New York Times writer Timothy Egan has a lot to say about the evils of One Percenters and big business. As usual for his ilk, Egan is long on unfounded opinion, commie propaganda, bald faced lies and nonsense, while being willfully short on facts.
Use the link provided to see how Walmart VP David Tovar wipes the floor with the New York Times.

Note: The article also lumps Starbucks in but I'm betting the Seattle based company won't be offering any such rebuttal to the Grey Lady's pathetic scribbler.
