Are More Prisons & Prisoners The Right Way to Go?

The question posed by CBC contributor and social justice advocate Michelle Mann needs an answer?

OK! Michelle .... if you're right then what we should do is continue to release criminals into society with a revolving door on the courts for repeat and violent offenders.

Right? Because that's really working out so well!

Just another reason why the CBC sucks ....... an endless supply of bleeding heart sentiment from social progressive fools who get a paid soapbox for their stupidity at the taxpayer's expense.

She Says: " As a downtown Torontonian, I am as aware as my fellow citizens that we have a gun crime problem. But one has to wonder whether tacking on a few extra mandatory years of imprisonment has any deterrent value."

No actually one does not have to wonder.

She asks: "Do criminals really sit around debating their potential sentence and then decide to commit a crime or not?"

No actually they don't! But they sure as hell do sit around in jail thinking about it after the fact.

And that is the point of jail time ..... plenty of time to consider the folly of your ways.

A loss of freedom to punctuate the wrong you have done to society.

Are all liberals this stupid?

And by the way Michelle there's a LOT more at stake than you and your smugly self righteous "Down Town Torontonian" friends and your local immigrant gangs with their guns.

I say let's let private companies build the jails and use the inmates as workers.

Why should my tax money go to house criminals ?

"...one has to wonder whether tacking on a few extra mandatory years of imprisonment has any deterrent value."

A large percentage of media reports on crime include statements like: "the suspects are known to police" - mostly because the suspects came through that revolving door. The deterrent value of jail ought to be obvious even to twits like Mann.

..obvious .... you'd think so.
Liberalism seems to come with or cause willful blindness though.

re the revolving door if you keep them in jail at least you don't need as many judges and lawyers or even police,

All those taxes saved!
Plus you can put them on tread mills give the energy free to Manitoba hydro then you could define their sentences in killowatt hours.

10,000 kwh your honour you know how long it will take me to generate that?

They should work at something as long as it isn't telemarketing.

MAD - awesome suggestion forced to contribute to productive efforts that benefit the rest of society.

Imagine! Squads of stationary cycles connected to generators.

Although I'd like to see bush cutting and road building in the north.
