CP Writer Can't See What's Wrong......

I've been ruminating over what to do or say about This Piece from the Canadian Press.

Because the author Les Perreaux had the good manners to respond to my letter complaining about it!

So I'd like YOU to be the judge of this .... I'll post the headline and first two paragraphs here and YOU tell Me what you think!

Headline: U.S. at centre of Cdn self-interest in Afghanistan

Excerpt:

"There is a three-letter answer for those searching for a simple, cold-hearted, calculated interest Canada holds in Afghanistan - a dusty, isolated backwater some 10,000 kilometres away.

It all revolves around the U.S.A. After 79 deaths and hundreds of wounded since 2002, Canadians could be forgiven for setting aside the laudable desire to help the Afghan people for a moment to ask: what's in this for us?"

Now how does that strike you?

OMMAG, someone needs to clips articles that the papers printed in WW2 and Korea then compare them with how the war in Afghanistan is being reported today.

And the MSM douchebags are soiling the seats of their Beemers with their tears as the market shares of their media outlets sink below rock bottom.

Gee. Wonder why?

Stinkholes.

The headline and the first few paragraphs put a very questionable spin on the situation. Since that's all most people read, that's what most people will take away from it.

One thing the author and some others don't understand is that the humanitarian efforts are linked to the anti-terrorism efforts. An educated and productive population will be less likely to allow the country to slip into the state it was before.

Of course you can see problems with big issues like the Afghanistan war and I agree with you but could you turn your mind for a moment to a smaller story a little closer to home? The story line about the Yellowquill baby deaths in particular. Remember the concept? Deal with the little stuff near you and the bigger stuff will start to fall in line? How reasonable is it that the MSM is focusing on and accepting grief counselors as the appropriate response? What about accountability counselors?

"Whats in it for me" is an inappropriate knee jerk response ....no different than grief counselors. Both tend to enable by usurping attention and distracting critical thought.

Generally like your blog but would enjoy more of your take on issues that you or I or bloggers generally have more of a chance to influence.

Thanks for the thoughts Bob.

let me cogitate for a while and see if there is something to add in that matter.

Unfortunately "What's in it for me?" is a typical boomer question. In the past, the consideration would be: "we need to do what needs to be done in order to insure a better world for our children and future generations".
