New Low for Canadian Broadcast Media

The hot topic in media last month was the battle over whether the likes of Bell/CTV/ Global etc... Should be funded by you as taxpayers and consumers through the cable carriers because those evil cable carriers are making too much money.

Well ... of course if you believe for one second that what these businesses do is essential to your quality of life in any way shape or form ... or for that matter that if every one of them disappeared into bankruptcy that they would not be replaced by another with a better business model then you might as well just write them all a blank check out of your own account.

But I digress..... today I saw a new advert on the tube sponsored by these smarmy losers.
They trotted out some dope from the Waterloo Regional police to threaten that your children are being made into pawns by the cable companies.

The level of emotional blackmail in their campaign to extort money from the public has reached a new peak ... or rather nadir......

In effect they are claiming that if you don't get behind their efforts to rip you off then you will be dooming your children to the mercies of kidnappers and worse. Because.... they claim... that programming that promotes and broadcasts things like Amber alerts and police notices, public safety announcements etc can ONLY come from them and only if you pay them off for their public spirited efforts.

Sure !! As if the cable operators have no public broadcast capability or that they are not already the main source of such announcements. And as if you were not already being screwed over by the carriers.

To be certain ... it make absolutely no difference to the facility of public service announcements whether the likes of these programming pimps cease to exist entirely.

They are simply self serving and lying bastards.

If anyone wants to get involved ... try writing the CRTC and let them know that neither the networks nor the cable companies need or deserve any public protection or regulatory interference on their behalf. What they need is to be held to account for the abuses of the consumer that they are all guilty of perpetrating. And the CRTC is supposed to be protecting the consumer.

I'm still trying to figure out wtf these pimps mean by "local programming". Is it the piss tank Ingrebritzen every Saturday night after the smarmy "local" news diatribes?

Come to think of it, I'm trying to remeber the last time I saw a high school or university basketball game on our "local" channels, or live coverage of an event at the Forks or in the exchange district...oh yeah, I remember now, it was on the Shaw public access channel.

The "local networks" as far as I'm concerned can jump on the next Greyhound out of town and good riddance to the lot of them....

What finished these @rseholes for me was in '97 during the flood.

The Cable station had round the clock live coverage and up to the minute reports. All of the press briefings and public announcements were live and unedited.

Day in and day out .... At each and every ( I think they were hourly) press briefing the local reporter for CBC did nothing but ask stupid questions with an obvious aim of getting an answer that could be spun into something bigger and scarier.

Then 10 minutes later CBC would have this asshole or another lying about what had been said in the briefing.

After a week of this Mansbridge came to town to "Report" and then the CBC had a live camera crew to interview HIM unedited at the Forks.

They are completely clueless, dishonest and worthless.

There isn't one that I would piss on if they were on fire. And their employers deserve to be bankrupted.
