An April Fool ....

The weather this weekend was absolutely gorgeous ..... +21 celcius in Winnipeg at the March/April nexus..... Man-O-Man !

I got to work on the back yard cleanup ... made a mess-o-BBQ ribs... had a couple of beers ... worked on the Honda 50 project a bit.

Really ... the only thing wrong with a weekend like that is that it ends too soon.

I'm a fool for great weekends ... no matter how fast they go by.

Myself and a friend were given an early version c100 to rebuild for a guy who had it as a kid. It's a 1960 model with pushrod motor ... we disassembled the machine before winter started and we are refurbing the frame right now.

I just pulled the head and cylinder off the motor today.

You going to publish pics when it's finished? Would love to see it. When I was a little kid, probably around 71 or 72 I was dying to get one of the little Honda Trail 50's that a couple of my little buddies had. I was running a Keystone mini bike with I think a Briggs 3.5 horse rototiller engine at the time and the Hondas were badass with suspensions and 3 speed gearbox.
Well one day the old man asks me if I want to come for a ride out to Richmond with him. So we get in to town and he pulls directly into the shop in town that happened to sell Honda bikes as well as repair small engines and the like.
Of course there's a brand new 50 sitting right there and I am all over the thing while Dad goes up to the counter to talk to the man.
It was bright blue and I had never seen one that color and I was an expert on anything to do with Honda 50's so I knew I was getting a super special model of some kind and my friends would die of jealousy, my old man was the best guy in the world and that I was the happiest kid on the planet.
Five minutes later Dad says " Ready to go?" and I'm like " Hell ya I'll help you load 'er in the trunk!"
He looks at me like what the fuck are you going on about and says I'm done here let's go. That's when I realize we're not there to buy me a bike he just needed a damn gasket or something
Well it was too much for me and I dissolved into a blubbering wretch and my Dad got pissed off at me and it was the worst day of my life up to that point. I probably didn't talk to him for three or four days after that.
Never forgot that and my little fella has a little tiny quad and a mini dirt bike already even though he's only 4 and still has training wheels on his first two wheeler.

A classic tale of youth denied the chance to indulge in a dream.

I had lots of grief from my own parents anyting I mentioned motorized transport.

I never had a scooter myself .... mostly because I started right in with full sized bikes as soon as I could get the money together. Never passed up the chance to scoop a ride with other kids scooters though....

Stay tuned for the results of the Honda resto ... check the newer posts.
