Cabin Fever Winter

Almost at the end of February and the winter weather has been a bear since November.

With regular doses of snow, accompanied or followed by arctic winds, most of the incentive to get outside and do things has been effectively removed. Basically, going out means running necessary errands or shoveling snow. Even with an indoor renovation project to occupy the days, the whole winter is grinding down on any sense of well being.

Surely we do get out to visit friends or to a restaurant every week or so. But the whole ritual of cleaning driveways, warming up vehicles and freezing your ass in the process really takes a good chunk of the fun out of it all. We also get the benefit of the folks who still haven't figured out how to drive on winter streets after four months (and probably a lifetime of winters prior).

The daily distractions of reading and writing are losing their appeal and Lord knows that even the sound of a TV in the background is grating on the nerves.

Fortunately, the prospect of getting the heck out of this mess for a week is nearing.

Clearwater FL beckons and I am answering the call to the Gulf of Mexico.
