The Veiled Voter !

The veiled voter "controversy" is not about numbers (yet) ....
It's about principle!
Something that seems to be alien to the liberal mind!

Boy, is this one ever getting a lot of attention on conservative blogs!

Seems to be a piece of badly written legislation, that the government expected Elections Canada to interpret favorably. Sounds like Mayrand has some issues with the government, and has dug in his heels. Maybe he's sick of laws that are open to "interpretation", rather than clear and unambiguous.

When you consider all the legislation that governments have left to the interpretation of the Supreme Court of Canada, this isn't really surprising.

If veiled women are allowed to vote in Monday's byelections,we should all challenge the law at the next election, wearing ski masks.

Just read this morning that Parliament will deal with this loophole as soon as they are recalled, in October, unless the Lib/Dips force a motion on the Afghanistan mission, and bring down the government.

Your right! It is weakly defined legislation that's at the root of this.
I have some measure of respect for Mayrand for taking a stand and sticking to it as well.

However, instead of causing a fuss over the interpretation there should have been prior communication with the government to bring these concerns to their attention.

Failure to do this shows a lack of respect and judgment on the part of Mayrand that makes me think he's deliberately provoking controversy.

In the business world this kind of behaviour could easily get him fired.
