Say hello to .......

Urthel Saisonierre .... she's a sweet Belgian Blonde.... a very special top fermented pale ale.

From Hildegarde van Osteden of Flanders  ... but brewed in bulk at the Trappistes in Koningshoeven in the Netherlands.

With live yeast in the bottle this special treat  is full of surprises.

A lively froth tries to escape the bottle as soon as the top gets out of the way and the brew pours cloudy into the happy glass. A white stiff foam forms on top and a healthy sized bite produces strong hoppy flavours and floral aromas from malt, yeast and hop. A real treat for the senses.

The hops really come on strong with a mouthful of the brew and hit the palate almost like lemonaide.
The mouth feel is smooth and creamy .... the aftertaste fresh and clean.

Goes best when chilled to frosty bottle temperatures and makes an excellent hot weather thirst quencher. 330 ml and 6% abv .... means that a lot of those $3 cad bottles could disappear on a day like today (30 Celsius) ...

The first Friday girl in a long time here at OMMAG ............ Catrinel is a pefect example of how SEX SELLS .... you see ..... she's the hottie in the Fiat Abarth ads on TV.

The very fact that I am interested in any way in an overpriced piece of crap Italian econo-box is proof positive of the effectiveness for the SEX SELLS marketing concept. To be sure ... I have no problem with using sex to sell stuff. I just resent a company like Fiat ... who produce a lot of other vehicles ... for limiting our choice of products to the bottom of the corporate barrel.

Ah well .... maybe she's free for a beer later................

Friday's Beer!

Well ... Beer and Porkchop.... That`s from last week in Guelph at 50 West in the Delta Hotel on Stone Road.

The chop was a swanky sort of thing ... but once you knock that pile of slaw off the top and get down to the maple-mustard glazed meat .... it is a thing of beauty .... sweet potato wedges were pretty good too.

That beer was a treat .... Flying Monkeys ... Hoptical Illusion .... very hoppy not much head .... but just the thing for a big slab of grilled meat!

Friday Night .... Man In the Kitchen

One pound of pickerel fillets .... sliced evenly and laid out in a flat dish. Covered with the juice of 4 limes, 2 lemons and a dash or two of tobasco sauce. (Pickerel Sushimi)
Let that sit in the fridge while you prepare some vegies.... One red bell pepper ... one green (cut up fine)  ...one medium white onion (vedalia cut thin slices and then chopped)...two beafsteak tomatos (just the outside meat and skin).....one large garden cucumber (skinned and with the center seed mush removed, cut up into 3 in chunks then sliced thin).... drain a can of corn niblets. Put each prepared vegetable on a layer of towel to dry.
Water is your enemy in this dish............

Go cut the grass .... work on the Jeep .... come back in about two hours..... drain the sushimi and lay it out on a paper towel to dry.

Mix the vegetables in a large bowl .... season with fresh ground black pepper .... sprinkle with cayenne and hot chilli ( just a sprinkle here) .... mix in a table spoon of coriander seed ... add the sushimi and sprinkle with red pepper sauce.


Serve on a bed of lettuce or on soft tacos ..... makes a great wrap.... add any other seasonings or side sauces that you like .... goes good with any Mexican or Spicey Oriental sides.

Say hello to Thwaites .... Very Nutty Black ...
Adverstised as an "Export Strength" brew and being "bottle conditioned"....

Well at 3.9% abv I'm not sure what they mean by export strength... but I'm guessing that England being part of the EU is subject to some kind of minimum content rule.

Anyhow .... the brew is low key with no head or effervescence. The aroma is that pleasant summer straw sort of fuggles hops and there is a little bit of bakeshop under the hops.

The mouth feel is smooth and creamy and the flavour a light slightly sweet taste with a low key and clean finish. As I said ... low key .... but pleasant enough.

I'm guessing that this would be a good beverage to wash down some hot-n-spicy food like curry.

Found ... in a random search of the MLC a couple of months ago.....


Thwaites Wainwright Golden Ale
A lovely golden body with a steady effervescence that starts out as a bubble orgy in the big glass.

Beautiful crispy foam top that gives off sharp hoppy aromas ... tinged with bananaesque yeast vapours and undertones of light breadshop malts.



A healthy swig provides plenty of pleasure .... a nice crisp tang... a smooth sweetness and a clean finish that hangs on to a bit of those hops.

Not heavy on the ABV at 4.1% ... a half liter is a great place to start .... also ... she goes well with pub food and snacks.

Thwaites Wainwright gets two thumbs up and a double lick off the top lip..... drain the glass all the way and get another.

From the cellars of Trapiste monks in Belgium..... a mini drama / adventure / love story ... By: OMMAG

Meet ORVAL!

OMMAG Standing in the Dakota St. MLC ... spots something he has not seen before ... it is the beautiful ORVAL standing there in her simple elegance .... she speaks to OMMAG ..... "Look at me .... take me" OMMAG speaks to her "I've not had the pleasure !" And so .... ORVAL Replies to OMMAG .... " Take me with you ... I will be your pleasure."
And so the deal is done .... OMMAG takes ORVAL into his hands and carresses her curvacious form. Gently, he sets her to rest in a sturdy case with some friends to keep her company.

Later at the home of OMMAG .....
ORVAL is set to rest in a cool dark place (the kind that her kind likes) where she can relax and prepare for the weekend.

As the days go by ... OMMAG has put ORVAL out of his mind .... but the weekend nears and thoughts of ORVAL become more frequent and more intense....

It is Friday afternoon .... OMMAG goes to ORVAL and brings her to his special place.

The happy glass is ready, the opener at hand, the scene is set for some intimate debauchery.

Now being from the home of Monks .... we are not sure if this is the sort of thing they had intended while nurturing this baby girl to maturity ..... but we are past those sort of quibbles.

OMMAG .... picks up the curvy vessel and once more gently carresses her form ... holding her up to the lights .... takes in feel and the form. Then .... prepares to release her from the confines of her travelling clothes. "Set me free." whispers ORVAL.
OMMAG complies ....
With a deftness gained through years of experience intrepid OMMAG applies his might to remove the constraining top and the compliant ORVAL fairly leaps from her confines. With a short gasping exclamation she slithers from the bottle to the happy glass ....

Freed from her former constraints she dances and bubbles, her golden head rising into a delight of froth. The perfume she releases is wonderful .... wild flowers and citrus fruit .... bakeshop aromas with spices and herbs ... fresh mowed clover .... and something so rare it is unidentifiable.

"Hold me close ..." speaks ORVAL...

OMMAG inhales .... he is smitten .... OMMAG is hungry for ORVAL .... he fills his mouth with the golden foam from her crown .... he is surprised by the bitterness of it ... at first.
As the taste of this treat settles in ..... the undertones of the flower and the fruit come back to establish their place in the cloud of flavour sensations..... this is a balance ... a yin and yang.

OMMAG is smiling ..... he knows know that ORVAL has spoken with her other voice and she is inviting as she reveals herself .... "Take me now. I have more .... so much more to give".

And OMMAG is not one to hesitate at such an invitation ....but he has restraint and does so with a slow and deliberate inhalation .... a long and savouring draught that brings the perfume and the musk of her body .... all the senses are aroused. Taste.... the sweet nectar with etherial seasonings .... feel ..... the sensuous creaminess that passes over the palate. OMMAG lets the sensations mingle and subside .... and relishes the after glow of the experience.

But we are not finished ..... again and again ... three .... four ..... and more until there is nothing left of her to give.

OMMAG is satisfied ...... for now.

Say hello to Tullibardine 1488 ... Premium ... Whisky Beer !
Spelled in the Scotts manner ....

First impression is that the brew pours a nice deep golden and clear body with a crisp looking off white head of froth.
The body is effervescent and remains that way as the foam settles to a thick lace on the top.


A whiff off the glass gives a pleasant scent of malts and grass like hops ... one of the earmarks (nosemarks?) of many beers that I do enjoy.... but understated in terms of the expectations of somethiing labled "Whisky Beer" .

A pull from the happy glass delivers a nice surprise .... lots of malttyness and a bonus of that oaken whisky barrel tingle followed with a clean and sweetish finish that leaves eventually .... a bit of dryness that begs fro another go at the glass.

All around .... really well balanced ... nothing over the top and quite satisfying.

Good beer!
