Back again because it is such a good thirst quencher ...

ZYWIEC ....
The best beer I've ever had from Poland!

In 500ml Bottle at 5.5% abv this is a decent example of European domestic mass produced beer.

Always reminds me of good times and good people to share them with.

This golden clear lager pours with a nice white head that settles out very quickly.
The aroma is grassy and hoppy with a tinge of lemon and just a slight hint of malts and yeast.
The body in the glass is very clear and has a good effervescence that keeps everything lively.
The flavours are just slightly floral and bitter hops and a touch of malt. It feels refreshing on the tongue and finishes with a nice aftertaste that leaves me looking for another.

If your looking for something different she's well worth the time!

I saved this one for a day when having more than a couple ..... a nice warm day when you can appreciated the effect of a well iced lager.

Just Because I Need A Beer !

Ok It's Friday ....

I had a long day, a long week made extra long by doing a rewrite for the second edition of a 300 page manual that just went out in January. Besides updating technical info in the book my boss decided this would be a good opportunity to bring in new standards for things like describing figures and illustrations, abbreviations and acronyms, units of measure, artwork and photos, tables and such. Sure I'll produce a bunch of new illustrations! Re-do the photos to make them lighter and so on..........!

Never mind that the first version contained about 60% reprint material from old manuals. Sure..... right away boss .... thanks for the break from that other rush job that has to be ready immediately!!

A months worth of work crammed into one week? NFP!


I have the perfect solution .................................... I need a TALL beer!



And so .... I resurrect .... FRANKENBIERE!!
















I went to laboratory and created this foam monster last September.............















I call her Hoe - Leffe .

She is golden blonde and smells like angels breath. She was created in my extra large happy glass and exists for the sole purpose of pleasing me by easing my pain.

Friday's Beer

Turns out that there was still an untested brew waiting in the back of the happy shelf. A benefit of the NBP. .............Darcey :)



This is Butte Creek Brewing's Organic Pale Ale.

I have no idea what makes it organic and I don't think it's so very pale... but she does come in a 355ml bottle all the way from Chico California.







What I do know is that she pours a nice copper and provides a short lived head of blond froth.
She's got a great aroma of that goody caramel malt and floral hop sort that many great beers present.

The first taste is all about the hops and bitter bite that mellows into sort of pleasant aftertaste.
The feel is crisp then slightly grainy.
The malts come back in a bit if you wait before the next sip and the finish is a bit dry.

Overall she wouldn't be a regular in my little black book.... but I'd keep her number.

Other Opinions are plentiful.

A Brief Sojourn To Attend to the Realities of Personal Life

A few days spent in the old stomping grounds a chance to see some old friends and the time needed to attend the bedside of stricken loved one.

Life can be harsh. Even when you can see that train coming from the far distance you might be tempted (and we often are) to dally on the tracks and just ignore it's existence.

Those trains that carry your fate with them may be sitting on a siding for some time before they move. And then, they do move and they pick up momentum.

You're still standing around catching a whiff of the flora or gazing into the near pools or taking in the sounds of the world or maybe just basking in the warm sunshine dreaming the little dreams of joy and life, when the next thing you know, that train just sent you into the next world.

Maybe you come back, maybe you don't.

One thing for sure .... you're life will never be the same... as it was before you were kissed by the train.

I'll say a few more prayers for your recovery brother. I'll be praying that you spit in the reaper's eye and laugh. And that I'll have the chance do it with you.

For what it's worth ... this is the time we regret allowing so much time to pass without enough sharing. A few more laughs and maybe a few tears wouldn't have hurt us.

So if our fates allow it... here's hoping we get a few more chances to do so.

Friday's Beer

Just like last year .... took me by surprise when I found it in the MLC store.


Half Pints Burly Wine ....

For truth in advertising this should be called "Beergasm"....






The bottle is sealed with wax and once opened pours a very rich amber/brown/caramel with a slightly cloudy body. The head is rich cream froth that thins out and laces around the glass.

The nose comes across very intense with powerful banana peel and citrus hops over top of those bakeshop malt aromas that make the salivary glands spasm the way standing next to a beautiful woman and inhaling perfume from her neck makes other glands react.

This is essentially sex in a glass if you are a red blooded man.

The first taste is a strong rush of the hops with the malt/caramel combination climbing over the top for your attention ..... POTENT!

It reminds me a lot of the Belgian strong ales like Piraat and Gulden Draak. This is beer to satisfy your hunger and fill your senses to keep you warm and feed the fires of lust and joy!

From a small craft brewery in Winnipeg yet!

Friday Night Blues & Beer

A new addition to the music room ... the Basement of Blues now has a solid foundation in the body of my new Ibanez Ergodyne bass.

She's got active Seymor Duncan pickups and a real thin neck for the small hand amateur player like me.

She has a Nice solid wood body with gorgeous curves all the way around.

I've got to develop some finger pickin string snappin and funk slappin chops for this new instrument while I feel my way around the fret board.

Already getting a whole new set of calluses after only a couple of hours.



And since I'm all into the this new babe there's no time to present a new beer for today. Instead I'll hand you all over to Darcey at Dust My Broom for the 141'st edition of Friday Night Blues and Beer!

Boxing Day

Still celebrating ...... food ... food ... food and more food ... them some beer .... then some more beer ... then some more food.

We went for a 90 minute walk this afternoon ... made room for more beer and food.

Need to sit down for a while and enjoy some of the new music I got for presents...

Well it seems that DMB has taken a full on hit to the server.
As of yesterday afternoon the hosting site for Dustmybroom.com was shut down and out of business. Leaving who knows how many web sites SOL for the Holidays.... and at least a few Broomers in a sad state of Friday Night with no Blues Tunes and no Beer picks from the D-man.

I'm going to give him a call and see what we can do about the situation....

Friday's Beer !

Tonight It's not about the new or unusual experience in beer.

I'm in a laid back mood and a bit tired from running errands and helping out on the campaign trail.

It's been a rewarding and hectic week and today I kick back with a familiar local friend :
Two Rivers Red from Fort Garry brewing here in the Peg.

Like they advertise she's a Canadian Style Lager with just a nice measure of malts and hops to produce a clear crisp sensation on the palate. I like the coppery red colour too....

The real deal tonight is all about some exceptional blues tunes picked out by Darcey at Dust My Broom dot com .... A head nodding jaunt of higher reality! Says the D-man ..... I say funky and eclectic ... somehow just perfect for the mood tonight.

Just Because I Need A Beer !

Ok It's Friday ....
I had a long day bustin' my back over some coffee-mocha coloured grout in a bathroom reno. I hate confined spaces and I especially hate doing messy work in confined spaces. My arms hurt, me back hurts and my knees hurt. My teeth hurt from clenching my jaw and my head hurts to boot.

I'm in a lousy mood and I need a TALL beer!
