A face you would always remember .... I can't recall the first time I saw his mug in a movie ... but that face sure did stick in the memory.

This guy was the quintessential character face ... a type ... the working class guy who brought a gritty sort of integrity into every character played.

Watching TV

So I was ....... watching TV really early in the morning and I see there is a new show with David Duchovny on Showtime .... apparently Davey's been a busy boy .. at least in 2008-2009.

Anyway .... the Show is called Californication ( a really not so clever cluge using the title of one of Ducky's old movies - Kalifornia - and a simple minded rip off a RHCP song title.)

And .. as expected David's acting in this series amounts to pretty much the same faux hipster douchebag cool affectation that he's offered the world in every other role he's played.




After all .... even the premise of a burn-out popular writer who moves to California to pursue his main interests of being a full time douchebag and riding some imagined charisma of days gone by is not much of a stretch.

There are however some interesting supporting players in the script.

One of the key players in the show is actress Natascha Mcelhone. .....


Who I just cannot shake the

impression is some kind of a relation to ........


Conan O'Brian .......

Which leaves me with a disturbing image ....






Since I believe that David Duchovny would probably nail just about anything that walks ....


I think Conan had better keep his pants on.

More Nugent

I like Anthony Bourdain and his wandering gastronome show "No Reservations" ... the guy really does go where no man really should go in the quest to learn and share a little bit about what people really do eat all over the world.

I especially like his sojourns into rural America or even inner city urban America for that matter where he proves a sort of courage that I would not even consider to challenge for the simple reason that I am not willing to face hours and days of gut wrenching agony for a few moments of over amped salivary gland spasms.

But I digress.....

I am also somewhat of a Ted Nugent fan and have been since I saw him hijack the stage for 90 minutes of guitar thrashing back in 1968 with the Amboy Dukes.

Now to say that the Nuge is a bit radical and knows his own mind and is not likely to put up with any shit from anyone is like saying the 44th president is a third rate politician.

However the prospect of seeing Ted Nugent the staunch individualist and libertarian on a show with the decidedly Disaffected East Coast LIberal Anthony Bourdain is just too entertaining.

Expect fireworks.

Saturday Relax ....

Outside chores done by noon and it is HOT out today .... so maybe time to kick back in the Air Conditioned environment and see what there is to see.

TV Movies .....
A couple of my favorite Clint Eastwood Flicks ;
- Unforgiven from 1992 .... there's a price to be paid for living a violent life.
- Kelley's Heroes from 1970 ..... One of the best ensemble casts for a war movie ever... only it's not really a war movie. Kelley's Heroes is a Caper Flick set in the environment of WWII France.
A chance encounter with a hapless German courier provides Kelley with an opportunity to get rich.. which leads to a host of others getting involved .. complications .. real risks.. comedy and a cagey strategic confrontation with the German guards of a 16million dollar stash of gold bars.
The stylized gunfighter face down in the dusty street is a priceless jab at the Hollywood western cliche'.

IMO one of the BEST Caper Movies of ALL time.

An Amy Winehouse Christmas

I seldom have any interest in commenting on current or even sort-of-recent pop performers OR especially on their private lives. I simply consider that regardless of what someone's gig is, what they do otherwise is just their own damned business.
Add to that the fact that I consider the cult of celebrity fascination to be the domain of complete idiots!

But I keep seeing Amy Winehouse in the news and basically it looks like she is setting new standards for rocknroll hedonism and self abuse! Considering some of the past masters of the lifestyle .... Hendrix ... Morrison .... Cash .... just to name a few it gets me wondering about what Amy's talent quotient is in the matter of Talent versus Notoriety. So I've been listening to Amy's music and I have to say that I do like her stuff. It's really too damned bad that "Living the Life" and the attention she gets from that intransigent attitude seems to trump the music.

At this point though it seems we're witnessing an epic train wreck so we might as well sit back and just take in the show ..... such as it is!

Lowest Common Denominator!

Comprehensibility tools are used to determine whether the written material you produce is suitable for the audience you are trying to communicate with.


Words such as - Haecceity or defenestrate or encapsulate or abstruse or assay or unequivocal - tend to push up the level of incomprehensibility. So do complex sentence structures and large paragraphs as well as the use of devices such as footnotes and reference identifiers.

Depending on the characteristics of the incomprehensibility tool technical jargon may be weighted as high or may be ignored.

In any case, the primary reason the tools are used is to facilitate better and more effective communication.
That's the business world.

In the bloggosphere they seem to be used as a measure of how intelligent or erudite the author may be or visa-versa.

Someone who copies and pastes or simply quotes a lot of verbose essays or editorial material may be recognized as an upscale wizard of words or someone without any sense no education or intelligence may get what appears to be a much better evaluation than they really deserve.

On the other hand a fellow with a wry sense of humor and some wit can elevate his standing by a little creative splattering of multi-syllabic verbs and adjectives.

You can try it yourself! Rate your favorites or rate yourself. Try a few of your least favorites.

It's called the Blog Readability Test and anyone can use it.
