Formula One - Fat Heads Butt Heads

I'm a big fan of F1 racing and I've been watching the evolution of the sport under the tutelage of Bernie Ecclestone with some amusement and a lot of frustration.

The Montreal Grandes Prix is on Bernie's chopping block of financially unrewarding venues...
As reported....

He scoffed when an interviewer for CJAD asked whether his demand - reportedly $175 million over five years, plus advertising and attendance revenues - was unreasonable.

Ecclestone said many other places around the world pay far more to host the race. He said the offer to Montreal was actually a steal, compared with what others pay.

Mayor Gerald Tremblay had called it unreasonable.

"Unreasonable compared to what?" Ecclestone replied in his radio interview.

"We do business worldwide and nobody else thinks we're unreasonable. We've got a queue of people that want races. So we can't be unreasonable."

Well actually Bernie .... you can apparently .......... and most of the time you get away with it!

Nevertheless...... I get a big kick out of someone telling the butthead politicians their full of crap.

CBC and Protestors Mob Trevor Kennerd Campaign Office

Things You Walk Into Without a Camera!

Upon my arrival at the Trevor Kennerd Campaign office today what should I find but a small gathering of the unkempt activist protestor sort all set up to show their deep concern for US military AWOL about to be deported back to the US to face his consequences.

No Camera ! Drat.

Well apparently they were all set to go at 08:00 this morning and basically ambushed the campaign volunteers when they arrived at 10:00 to open up.
Apparently .... taking the time to find out what the office hours are is too much of a task for protestor types.

CBC news of course was there johnny on the spot to capture any action that might ensue... I'm hoping they got film of the jokers pushing their way into the office and intimidating the ladies who volunteer there.

One fellow came all prepared with cardboard cartons festooned with pictures and notes... and squatted in the office and refused to leave. The outside squad had a banner to wave and about five or six foks to squack the usual anti US anti war and anti-establishment slogans. And one or two armed with cameras and video cams to record the drama.

We had a CBC type surreptitiously walking about inside the office with a voice recorder .... hovering around campaign volunteers hoping to catch some snippet of conversation to be used... one might guess at a later time to engage in some typical CBC type scandal mongering.

Sometime around 13:00 a few party guys showed up to inform the clowns that :

a- Trevor Kennerd is not even an elected MP
b- There is an MP in the riding and she's a LIberal named Anita Neville and that's where you should be protesting.
c- You are trespassing.

Well the folks at the campaign office graciously allowed the principals to stay and the main part of the group faded away after a while. I had a conversation with what seemed to be the point man. An articulate guy with the usual activist accoutraments who wanted to discuss democracy and justice and non-partisan activism etc. All well and good until we got to the point where he felt obliged to enter the lefty dogma world of US illegality, military corruption and injustice and blah blah blah .... time to walk away. More blah blah in the background ... blah blah no conscience .. blah blah injustice ...blah......

Someone in the office planted a Support Our Troops yellow ribbon poster in the office window and our intrepid activist showed up again a while later to get photos.

Stay tuned for updates on what transpired after 16:30 when I left.

In Case Any of You Were Wondering About African Politics

This is pretty much what you might have to deal with if Your candidate isn't Their candidate and Your candidate is "Lucky" enough to win an election.......

Election Day!

ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!

This is NOT over! Doer - Melnick and the rest of you!

You may have won yourselves the opportunity to further impoverish this province and you will probably succeed in doing so within the next four years.

But I promise that I will see your political asses handed to you at the end of the impending reign of incompetence that began today!

May The spoils of your victory be as bitter as bile.
May The fruit of the seeds you have sown be as nettles in your mouths.
May you choke on the blood you suck from the veins of the honest working man.
May you suffer all the indignities that can be conjured by unwitting fools who support you today but will come to learn the folly of their choices!

Monday Victoria Day - Election Roundup

Well Trudy Turner is looking strong and has incumbent MLA Christine Melnick worried!

After campaigning on her AHEM! "Record" while assiduously avoiding any mention of her roles at MB Housing or Child& Family Services. After spouting the Doer mantra that we are somehow keeping Garry Filmon from coming back and firing nurses or selling Manitoba Hydro.

She's brought grinning Garry in to bolster her image ( yup) at the last minute and I hope she and the G man got laughed off every doorstep they imposed themselves upon in the miserable weather on Sunday.

The hollow claims of being active and involved in the Riel community have all been rebuffed by the people who live here. Now get out to the polls and VOTE people. The back end of precious Christine will be the better view!

News Flash : Gary Doer says polls are undemocratic! Funny how his wife runs a polling market research company! Apparently she does very well with contract that are let by government controlled organizations!

Here's hoping we have a new MLA in Riel on Wednesday and a new Premier in Manitoba.

The Election Trail has some Baffling Signs!

On the NDP election campaign signs you may notice that the bottom has MGEU printed on it.
Are we supposed to be electing the MGEU? Perhaps this is an indication of exactly who we are supporting when we support the NDP!

Isn't it interesting how the changes to the elections act for Manitoba that would have put greater constraints on labor groups contributions to political parties never got enacted?

Of course I guess the unions are Free to support the Conservatives! ( he said with the tongue firmly planted in the cheek!)

Other reports of CUPE members receiving NDP propaganda in their pay statements seem to be accurate. And it is still legal for Unions to STEAL their members dues to use as political funds!

Maybe the Dippers should just come clean and run on the platform of "A Vote for The NDP is a Vote for Organized Labor" !!

On The Campaign Trail!

After a wet weekend we still managed to get a significant amount of door knocking done and letter drops in the Riel constituency.

Some Comments From the Riding:

"I'm a decided voter and a I don't want to say who I'm decided for! But it's not the NDP or the Liberals!" Thanks!

"We vote conservative! These NDP are good for nothing you know I work in health care and these people are doing nothing to help! Nothing! They are no good!" That's what I call an educated voter!

" Get off my property! I don't even want to hear it! " Well, he did have an NDP sign on his lawn! Got to love those open minded and well informed union guys!

" Thanks for stopping by! We're not decided but we need to know what your party is going to do about health care!" You are very welcome. And, we're going to start by getting the bureaucrats at the Regional Health Care Administration out of the way! After that we're going to start paying doctors so they stay here instead of leaving.

" I'm self employed, I run my own business! Can you believe that these idiots want to make employers pay for traffic offenses that employees commit while operating company vehicles?
What kind of sh*t for brains BS is that?" Exactly!

" Doer says he's going to get tough on offenders? After 10 years of nothing and things getting worse this is what he tells us now?" Yep!

" Well I'm an NDP supporter but I'm going to consider your people this time!" Thanks!

" It's the system that's all screwed up! Who's going to change that?" Well, start by making an intelligent voting choice. Kick out the incumbents and see what happens! You can always fire the next one too if you don't like how things turn out!

Let's get this show on the road!

BTW - How many of you NDP supporters bought into the Crocus fund because your union reps told you it was a good idea? How many lost money? You think Garry and The Dippers told you the truth? Are you planning on making any more investments based on advice from union flunkies??

Swing Riding! - On the Campaign Trail

The local folks sure are coming around! It's time to change they say .... "Ten years is long enough and these people have had their chance to prove themselves."

"Since we're paying their salaries it's our right to expect them to be responsible and they never have been yet. Time to fire them!"

While the grinning Garry Do-Little opens his magic bag to produce another set of empty promises and phony proclamations our invisible sitting MLA Christine Melnick continues to be MIA from the riding!
How is it that a person who comes to our community claiming to be one of us and so concerned about being part of our neighborhood has been seldom seen over the course of two terms?
Is because she is SO BUSY? Well I guess if running and hiding from responsibility can be considered a fair use of our time paid for by our tax dollars.

Stay invisible Chrissy we won't miss you when you are gone!

Monday's Child

Trudy Turner

With not too much to say about the campaign over the weekend except the NDP's move to further absolve workers of responsibility for their conduct and inflict yet more impositions on employers.
Get this The Dippers want to make it ok for an employee to go out and break traffic laws in a company vehicle! Wonder who is going to be paying the fines??

Oh yeah! Way to go Doer! One more reason for a business to move somewhere else!

On the Intelligent Side:
Our team has been busy getting out in the community to meet people and hear what they have to say!
Voters comments on our efforts - "Great to see You! Thanks for stopping by! We need to get rid of these people!( the NDP) "- Thanks now get out and VOTE!

Some Curious Comments - "I'm a retired teacher and Doer didn't give us our pension COLA!"
This one kind of miffed me....what a sense of entitlement! Booo Hooo .....anyone else got pension COLA increases? Anyone!!?

And the Unfortunate Apathy of the perpetually downtrodden - "They're all the same .... what difference does it make!?" Try VOTING for a CHANGE!

Media Polls - Freep and Sun in WPG

Seems the people who read these papers are convinced that they know the Conservatives will sell MB Hydro. Thanks to the papers in question and their unquestioning repetition of whatever Garry Doer says I guess!
Pure fear mongering on the part of the NDP!
Take a look at this: Sun Poll
Pure evidence of the success of the papers anti-conservative propagandizing and spin.
And This : Freep Poll

On The Campaign Trail - Trudy Turner Riel

Trudy's campaign got off to a strong start on Sunday with an energetic group of supporters getting out on the Street! Sporting Trudy's campaign signs along with hearty smiles a big waves to the passing traffic around the St. Vital center they were greeted by many friendly waves and smiles in return! Cars honked, motorcyclists waved and showed thumbs up ..... a good start!

Followed up with some door knocking in the neighborhood the team found lots of supporters and even some not so supporters who were still happy to chat a bit about issues. Not something they've had much of chance to do with Ms. Melnick it seems.

One poignant incident was a very angry resident who was beside herself over the treatment her husband had received in the last while at one of our local hospitals. I can't say she was won over by the presence of campaigners but I can say that it's a damned shame that anyone can be so abused by the health care system that they have only anger for anyone associated with it or the government in any way.

Wasn't Doer and the Dippers going to FIX our hospitals??
