The Triumph of Mediocrity

There used to be a USA that required strength of its  leaders because the people were strong and would not be governed by weaklings.

There now is a USA where, it seems that only the weak and the mediocre can be elected.

The cascade of recent events around the globe and especially in the sphere of Russian ambition is becoming a show case for the failure of the USA.

Simply observing the fiasco surrounding the Mediterranean and the Middle East should be enough to convince even a moderately engaged person that there is an utter inability and serious lack of will on the part of the current government to take a leadership role on the world stage.

In fact, what has happened since the ascension of the Democrats in Washington is the US has abdicated any useful influence anywhere in the world.

Domestic matters are no better managed but the GOP has every bit as much to answer for in its own failings.

A sad state of affairs.

Particularly, the civil breakdown of Ukraine under the malicious influence of Russia's de facto dictator Putin.

As the world is distracted by the politicized coup counting of the Olympic games in Sochi Russia, the hapless Ukraine is being picked apart by the bought and paid for stooge Viktor Yanukovych. The elected president hoped to buy political security by promising uninterrupted supply of natural gas to heat the homes  and power the lights across Ukraine. In the process he helped to bring the nation to near bankruptcy and under absolute indebtedness to Putin. Putin has already started turning the screws by forcing his puppet to reject an overture of economic ties to the EU.

Now the people of Ukraine and the political opposition in what just months ago might have been seen as a healthy but troubled democracy are being shot in the streets of the capitol city Kiev. There is a growing chance that they will also soon see troops and probably tanks on the streets in what is looking more and more like a replay of Poland or Hungary or Czechoslovakia.

And, just like in those episodes of Russian thuggery in the last century, we can expect the rest of the world to do nothing. Just watch as the POTUS hands  this off to Putin and tries to wash his hands.

Putin is playing to win and knows how to get it done while Obama is either playing to loose or trying to walk away without a clue as to what it all means.

AKA Toronto ON, after a weekend of snow and ice accompanied by electrical power outages the pressing issue in the minds of Trawnatonians is apparently that Mayor Ford did not declare a "State of Emergency".

Never mind that the power company crews are effectively removing the fallen trees that are the primary cause of all power outages as they knocked down or simply cause arcing and blown breakers.

Never mind that most of Ontario lies outside the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and that many of those areas have far more work to do to clean up the mess.

Never mind that all of the work is getting done without ANY participation by any politician ANYWHERE.

And mostly never mind that that the ONLY thing these political clowns in Trawna have had to say is this feeble minded suggestion that the Mayor of Toronto is wrong for keeping out of the way of those who actually are working to restore utility service.

BTW ... Toronto the perfect has a bylaw making it illegal for home owners to cut branches or remove trees from their property. The city also does not keep trees pruned and does not remove any branches or trees unless they are diseased. They leave it up to the utilities to perform removal AFTER incidents like wind, snow and ice storms. This does not constitute an emergency ... it is willful neglect leading to expensive consequences and disruption.

I always get a big kick out lefty clowns who try to pretend that their once public debauched  lifestyles did not happen.

Lenore Zann complains    that a twitter post showing her naked in a TV drama where she portrayed a lesbian prison inmate is illegal. Citing legislation that is yet to be passed the 54 year old ex actress and NDP MLA in Nova Scotia is threatening a juvenile twitter commenter who pointed out her past professional behavior. Her complaint is that the juvenile is "bullying"her.

That's rich!

"Actress" performs graphically violent and pornographic scenes in 2008.
"Actress" becomes politician in 2009.
Politician is exposed in social media in 2013.
Politician responds by making threats while complaining of being threatened.
Politician cites non-existent legal grounds and runs to police for support.
Politician complains that the "work" she did was not pornographic (in spite of the explicitly violent and sexual nature of the video).

What part of this woman's behaviour is the most disgusting?

My memory of Coderre is something less than an honourable or honest politician. There's a link to a CBC story on the ongoing battle between the US Congress and the Senate over funding (That means printing money they do not have for you uninformed sorts).

For some reason CBC sees fit to promote the non involvement of Obama (President Pissant) as an important factor in this ongoing political theater being played in Washington.
Ripped from a report by AP by Canadian Press and regurgitated by CBC the article reads from headline to the lead like a Pravda tongue bath of Putin.
The best part is the non-sequitur  bullshit in the captioning for the photo of Saint Barry  from AP.

Pissing on Trees

The events at the National War Memorial in Washington that transpired yesterday highlight the contempt that government employees in general and the Obama administration in particular, hold for the citizens and public they are paid to serve.

Using the national parks employees to set up barricades, obstructing lawful access by citizens to public spaces, strikes a new low for this administration. The parks service has no resources to keep the public washrooms open ... but they do have the time and staff to erect these barricades and guard them with the sole purpose of antagonizing a group of veterans who had previously arranged to hold a ceremony at the memorial site.

The veteran's group moved the barricades and went ahead with their observances and  plans are under way to continue holding assemblies in protest ... in spite of the lack of washrooms.

As one spokesman for the veteran's group said:
“We have people here that are 80 and 90 years old and they closed down all the bathrooms?” said Tony Nussbaum, a 25-year veteran of the Air Force from Iowa and a leader of the state’s Hero Flight group. “I’m about to just start pissing on the trees.” …

I think that much more pissing on trees is in order.

More monument sites blocked and guarded today .... But the veterans are on site at the WWII memorial... no word on where they are relieving themselves.

A passing comment today that came across my fbook page noted that the clown prince Justine was confronted in Brandon MB yesterday. This was a strange sort newsbyte  in any case, and pretty well fodder for every every axe grinder regardless of the viewpoint.

My nephew thought that the shiny pony response was praiseworthy. Which is not surprising ... since he is all for a libertarian legalization of drugs. Never mind the consequences.

The kicker was one of his fbook friends, who offered this bit of illumination on the fundamental problem faced by our society:

"I really can't wait till the liberals get elected again. Everything is always so much better when the liberals are in power."
