The Anti-Gentrification Bandwagon

The Term "Gentrification" has been used describe the natural economic process where investors buy low value properties and redevelop those properties. The process usually begins with a single project and results in the increase of adjacent property values.

However, it is more often used by "progressives" as a cudgel and as a hot button to raise the ugly spirit of class envy.

When activists rant about gentrification, they go on about how people are losing their heritage and their homes. With the issue painted in colours of greed and avarice over the backdrop of hardship and despair that is where the progressive theme stops. Not once will you ever hear from the bandwagon drum beaters the rest of the story.

Because? The rest of the story is about how people are trapped by the decay and neglect that originates in and becomes pervasive in their own community.

Ask a homeowner if they would like to see their own property value go up. Ask them if they would like to be able to use that home value to repair or upgrade their own property. Ask them if they would like to have that bigger nest egg to retire.  Ask any of the residents if they'd like to see some stores or jobs in their neighbourhood. Ask them if they'd like to see the derelict properties raised and the empty lots cleaned up or put to use.

The activists won't ask and they won't tell that story either.

Because activism is all about stopping progress and keeping people in their place.

Hysterical Parents and Out of Control School Officials

 School Officials

In Mesa AZ ... a local police officer went to pick his daughter from school. He was in uniform and wearing his gear and gun. How is this a problem?

Well if your neighbours are hysterical liberal freaks it becomes a problem. And if the school principal is a spineless kneejerk bureaucrat with an overblown sense of  self importance, it might just become a defining moment of moonbattery being allowed to exceed common sense. The principal decided to phone the officer at home and instruct him NOT to come to the school in uniform or with his weapon.

The officer involved took exception to the overreach of the school and let it be known publicly.

Not surprisingly ... once the matter became public the school tried to backtrack, claiming that they had no idea the phone call would be taken with offense.

And that my friends ... in a nutshell ... is the heart of the problem.

They never do have any idea or clue. And yet every day millions of people send their children, sheep like into the arms of fools just like this.

The upshot of this is that a standard measure of comprehensibility puts the shallow one's big speech at the lowest ranking of any presidential SoTU address .... ever.

Since I'm not inclined to confuse low cunning and guile with intelligence or deep thinking .... I'm going to stay of the opinion that the main thing getting dumber are the political knobs.

Sure they help to drag down the rest of society where it is most clearly seen in bureaucrats and public officials of all sorts, education administrators and teachers and so on. Of course there is a special kind of dumber for reporters and news editors and publishers... but that's a whole other story.

But this is the trickle down consequence of belief in socialism.

There is the clear result in the lowering of standards across all measures of what makes a society good or healthy or admirable.

Thank the socialists in your life for all of that.

Know your enemy.

A Little Snow ....

A little blizzard is sitting over southern Manitoba right now .... not a record amount of snow coming down but still a real deal winter storm.

From The Weather Channel ....

In the last 24 hours it looks like we got more snow than for the whole winter ........
Now you might think that after seeing the snow come down for that amount of time .... and after at the very least seeing the state of the streets .... that someone would exercise a bit of sense about going out in a freekin electric wheelchair.

Since my phone won't take pictures anymore .... I can't actually show you what I saw about a block from my house .... but .... just picture a thing with 8" wheels spinning away in the middle of the damned road ... dead center in the street ... right in the path of oncoming vehicles as well as any coming up from behind. We are talking about a street that has enough snow on it so that cars are basically staying in the ruts and taking turns on the narrower parts where other vehicles are parked.

Now ... I'm not afraid to stop my truck and get out to help someone who needs it... I've done whenever I thought I needed to in the past!

But I have to say .... Just because a guy is in a wheelchair ... does not entitle one to be a freekin idiot.

Back to Work Day .... was snow ... now it's Friday ... and more snow

Not a bad week ... a little snow on Monday/Tuesday ... then today a little More ...
No improvement in Winnipeg Drivers .... the white lobotomy is in full force.

Only real trouble is ... today it's cold again and getting down to -22c tonight ... stiff North wind that blows a big stinking drift across my driveway .... and OMMAG jr... buggered off to work without shovelling.

And what a pleasant surprise to wake up to a snow storm ..... eh?

Wet gooie stuff that froze into a hard crust in the morning.....

And to think ... all those snowriders out there who've been pining for snow .... couldn't have happened BEFORE the weekend .... could it?

A typical Winnipeg dufus on the first day it snowed in over a month.... between the ones who can't get it going to the ones who can't figure out how to stop ... or steer ..... this is why I drive SUVs and full size pickups ......

Watts – who has written six such books – was on his way back to Toronto last Tuesday after helping a friend move to the U.S. Before crossing the Blue Water Bridge into Sarnia, American customs officers pulled him over. He says when they began rifling through his car and luggage, he got out. They ordered him back in the car; he asked what was going on.

What happened next has become the talk of the blogosphere: Watts too has waded in on it, posting that he was assaulted, punched in the face, pepper-sprayed and thrown in jail for the night, only to find that he was the one charged – with assaulting a customs officer.

Customs officials told the Star Watts was given directions "and became non-compliant...he did not follow directions and a physical altercation" ensued.
