Flummery: Meaningless and deceptive language.

I've been trying to explain to people for years the reality of the global temperature for the last 10 thousand years. Both atmosphere and ocean temperature histories are misrepresented by the climate change hucksters who have consistently ignored data that negates their claims while misrepresenting other data to support their biases. 

Lately they and the news media have glommed onto some data about ocean temperature history and come up with this chestnut:

In a reconstruction of Pacific Ocean temperatures in the last 10,000 years, researchers have found that its middle depths have warmed 15 times faster in the last 60 years than they did during apparent natural warming cycles in the previous 10,000.

Not So!

 As shown clearly in the graph that was a part of the documentation in the study discussed in these reports, the little red circle highlights the period from the mid 20th century to present that the frauds are using to justify their hysterical claims. When the interval is viewed in a closer perspective of six hundred years (1400-present) the slope is obviously less than several events in that period.

When you take a look at the larger 10 thousand year graph ... the scope and the precipitous rate of historical changes in ocean temperatures is even more apparent.

I short ... the article that is cited in various media and being cheered by the hysterics and climate fraudsters is being entirely distorted (lied about) and there is no justification at all in the data for any of the outrageous claims being made about "unprecedented" change.

Bad enough that "know nothing reporters" and media editors use this type of inflated nonsense to promote sales of their dreck to an uniformed and mostly uninterested public. The fact that these so called scientists are willing to do the same is a disgrace.

The fact that political leaders allow themselves to be influenced in policy or to politicize these matters  based on the flummery of activist frauds and pig ignorant news media is outrageous and unacceptable.

I note in the Alumni Newsletter that the spring ceremonies will “honour renowned climate scientist Raymond Stuart Bradley” with an honorary DSc on June 12. The Queen’s News Centre reports that he is a “celebrated global warming whistleblower known for championing integrity in science“.
Is this the same Bradley who was involved in an exchange of emails with the chief rogue scientist, Phil Jones, of the Climategate scandal? The topic pertained to “hiding the decline” in global temperatures. This Bradley was also associated with the infamous Michael Mann “hockey stick”, which was used by the UN’s IPCC to promote the anthropogenic, global-warming hoax.
If he is the same Bradley, when did he blow the whistle?
I hope that the scientific reputation of the University is not being placed at risk.

Climate Science on Sunday

The recent favorite pictogram used by global warming (climate change) alarmists is a graphic generated by some  scientists named Marcott, Shakun, Clark and Mix. What makes the hysterical doomsayers so happy about this work is that it appears to replicate the results of Mann etal in the prediction of global warming based on CO2 in our environment.

The problem for all these so called scientists is that from the very beginning the predictions were based on a combination of wishful (for the paranoid fear mongering crowd) thinking, fabricated data and the wilful ignoring (and hiding) of data that was contrary to the desired model.

Because these newcomers chose to ignore the inconvenient facts around the Mann and friends fraud they opened themselves up to the same sort of examination.

Well .... it did not take long to discovers the flaw in their efforts.
Step One - Anything that looks like Mann etal is probably no better. If it walks and talks like a duck!

Step Two - Look for the manipulation used in the data. We already know that it took deliberate manipulation of the actual data used by the first bunch to get what they wanted, so it follows that any similar results came from the same sort of "work".

That's it! Two simple bits of critical thinking and a little analysis and our intrepid Doctor Stephen McIntyre spots the trick.

Instead of changing their data, Marcott  and company used different dates in their published paper than what was actually recorded.

Of course the news media that purports itself to be expert in the fields of science and research have not and likely will not bother to perform even the most rudimentary examination. I doubt if they will even mention the fact that Steve McIntyre actually did.

In related news, the "whistle blower" scientist who has been a thorn in the side of the political esablishment in California has been forced to sue his employer in self defense.
 Dr. James Enstrom  has been a vocal critic of the destructive policies initated by California politicians and regulators such as CARB . His employer, UCLA told Enstrom he was being terminated because his research failed to accord with the department’s “mission.”

The mission of UCLA apparently is NOT the discovery and publication of truth or facts.
Just another case of environmental activism at work.

Daily Bell: In 2006 you were named by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as one of a minority of scientists said to be creating a standoff on a consensus on climate change. Was this an unfair charge?
Fred Singer: The CBC forgot to mention that thousands of scientists hold the position that I hold and therefore not a "minority" of scientists, at least not a small minority.
Daily Bell: You argue there is no evidence that global warming is attributable to human-caused increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide, and that humanity would benefit if temperatures do rise. Why do you feel this is a responsible position to take?
Fred Singer: As far as we can tell, the increase of CO2 has not been producing corresponding warming. For example, there has been no warming in the 21st century − despite the large increase of greenhouse gases.
Daily Bell: You are an opponent of the Kyoto Protocol and have said of the climate models that scientists use to project future trends that "models are very nice, but they are not reality and they are not evidence." How is it possible that so many scientists can be so wrong while you are correct?
Fred Singer: I am one of many who oppose the Kyoto Protocol, both for scientific reasons and for economic reasons. It is basically a political document, a treaty based on climate models rather than observed evidence.

Never mind the fact that it is not possible to make an electric vehicle that can compete on true cost of owning and operating with a gas powered vehicle. Never mind the billions of government subsidies (tax dollars) squandered on efforts to coerce manufacturers to produce EVs. Never mind the wasted tax dollars poured into failed battery production schemes.

Anyone who actually knows anything about looking after a motor vehicle also knows that the single weakest part of the machine is the damned battery. And the colder the climate you live in the lower the reliability of the damned battery.  Making anyone who lives above the 49th parallel ... that buys an EV ... a double plus all day sucker.

A Congressional Budget Office report released in the fall tells Obama what the rest of us have known for some time: Your bet on electric cars wasn’t an investment, but a gamble; a dumb gamble.
And now you’ve just come up snake eyes.
“Despite the federal government pumping $7.5 billion into the electric vehicle industry in the United States through 2019,” writes the CSMonitor.com, “overall national gasoline consumption is unlikely to be significantly affected, according to a report released by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).”
The CBO says that even if Obama increased the amount of the subsidy, it would make little difference to the gasoline usage or emissions output because automakers would still be required to hit fuel efficiency targets. Instead, the CBO says that either a tax on gasoline or carbon is the only way to increase the attractiveness of electric cars to consumers.
Duh.  That’s because electric cars don’t save gas, they don’t save money and they don’t save the “planet.”   They are only a vanity-plumping, amenity purchase for the metro-testicled.

Orestes ... for those not able to recall any facts about the history of AGW  fraud and scientific concensus scams over the last 20 years  is a favorite quote for the likes of Albert Gore.

Didn't someone say we were all going to die of heat and dehydration because of CO2?

The year I moved into this house it was 24 degrees Celcius above freezing on May 1st.

As far as I know ... there is a lot more CO2 in the atmosphere now.......... well 0.014% more.

Good thing the crocuses and lillies are getting lots of good CO2 saturated air to offset the killing effects of being frozen.

They Should Have Used the AGW Method

My question would be : What justification is there for funding research into something that is of such little impact that it is going to be impossible to evaluate?

But of course such trifling matters are of no concern to those who benefit from the government enforced handouts .... as if Obama and his EPA thugs are some sort Robin Hood and his Merry Men .... the theft of investor assets by the US government for sole purpose of redistribution is considered perfectly justified in the minds of those who are destined to benefit.

In spite of the fact that the money is already in the hands of the thieves .... the chosen recipients of this state sanctioned are getting nervous about getting their cut of the loot?

Why is Manitoba Hydro broadcasting NDP talking points about a project that is in fact not being pursued for any of the reasons stated?

Did Manitoba Hydro not already have a plan in place that met all of these warm and fuzzy goals before the NDP came to power?

You will note that Hydro is not claiming that they are pursuing the BEST plan. That they are in fact not saying anything that falls outside the realm of NDP lies intended to move people to believe that the People's Party is backing the a transmission line plan that is in the best interests of the people of Manitoba. Let's be clear about this ... the Bi-Pole III plan is NOT Manitoba Hydro's plan.

This plan is the product of the NDP arrogance and incompetence. The Bi-Pole III plan evolved from what started out as a real plan based on the results of studies conducted by Hydro.

The NDP at first agreed that the Manitoba Hydro plan to run a new power line down the East side of Lake Winnipeg along the Ontario boundary was the best possible approach. They agreed with the results of the studies and they agreed with the goals of the Plan-A.

Then along came a local mouthpiece for a US based environmental activist group complaining that parts of the route bordered or included a "World Nature Preserve". A preserve determined not by the people of Canada nor by the People of Manitoba but rather by the self professed authority of an organisation that has no authority over our Nation at all. I will not go into the depths of corruption behind the UN and it's policies .... save to say that there has never been one that Canada has been beneficiary of ... quite the contrary.

So ... after our home grown eco-fanatic gets his buddies in the US all worked up ... they deliver a public announcement claiming (falsely) that the planned construction project is going to do irreparable harm to the environment and the local residents of the area. Also that it was in some way illegal and immoral because the UN said .... blah... blah .... blah!!

Well ... good old Grinnin Gary caved to these nobodies faster than a cheese soufle' dropped on the floor..... our gutless wonder fearless leader ... couldn't turn around fast enough in the face of self righteous indignation from politically correct and self important meddlers like that.

After all those folks used all the right words eh? Like ... environment.... sustainable ..... blah ... blah .... destruction .... devastation .... blah .... blah ..... aboriginal .... blah ... blah ... blah .... human rights .....blah blah.... and pretty much every sort of flapdoodle know nothing activist BS possible (and that is a lot).

After that skid mark on Broadway avenue.... Doer .... began telling the whoppers ...used the lies concocted by foreign environmental activist organizations and ramped the whole issue up into a political campaign to help see them into term #3 by pretending that the opposition conservatives had been behind Plan-A.

Perhaps you failed to notice that Manitoba Hydro recently admitted that the Bi-Pole III west route is going to cost twice what the NDP claimed? No matter ... the NDP cost projections were nothing but faery dust to sooth the nervous among their own ranks .... they never cared what anyone else thought or knew .... because that's just the way it is when you are "The People's Party".

Plan-B is nothing but political opportunism .... crass pandering to interest groups who have no interest in Manitoba or any right to interfere in our business .... an ideologically driven desire to control things they have no understanding of ..... gross incompetence .... and absolute disregard for the welfare of Manitoba.

So ... after all this ... just why is Manitoba Hydro spending taxpayers money to promote the B plan?

Another Friday T-Storm... and Climate Fraud Report

As I sit here by the window watching a granddaddy thunderstorm lumber by I am amused ....

My gin-n-tonic is nice and cold ... the air wafting through the window screen warm and damp... the sky filled with roiling clouds .... and the deep rumble of constant thunder.

There are a number of storms around the area and the evening sun is illuminating the upper reaches of those that have visible tops.

With this backdrop ... I'm wandering the web a bit and find yet another little storm on the climate science front. Well less science than hucksterism...........

Yet another government agency is busted recently with their fingers on the data base editing tool.
This time it's the NOAA ( National Ocean and Atmospheric Admiistration - USA) brought attention to itself when independent analysts began to notice highly irregular patterns in the data published by the government agency. I'd guess it's a little too likely that when other already discredited groups have been shown to have fiddled the data collection system to make a case for alarmist propaganda that the same patterns emerging from big time public funded science research organizations would be found out.

And quite publicly exposed: NOAA - Satellite Scandal is a Catastrophe!!

Well ... I'd say so! After all, it's pretty tough to market the product you sell when everyone finds out it's as likely to be a fake as it is to be the real deal.

Also, for those activists who have entrenched themselves into institutional science organizations it's going to be extra tough to extract money for research. At least money for REAL research and not just propaganda to be used by other frauds and scammers.

The other large and as yet unanswered question in all this is... Why? When individuals without the benefit of high levels of accreditation or the resources of huge organizations have been on to this for as much as ten years at this point. Why then have those highly self regarding major media and science publications not offered one peep about the obvious?

And to this day the most public hucksters continue to scream and yell about how the "skeptics" are all so stupid and dishonest.

Ok? Why?

Better Than Fake

Found a good one over at SDA...........

The Mann method is designed to produce only one result ... even deliberately faked data produce more accurate results than the jacked up Briffa sets.
But... the best part is that if you put any sort of data into the Mann machine ... you get the hockey stick result.

Yet another real scientist ... as opposed to activists possessing some sort of credentials.....

The Reference Frame .. shows why and how the climate fraudsters results were a foregone conclusion.....and asks.....

Why are there still people, including people employed as climate scientists, who claim that they don't realize that the Mann methodology is flawed? They're clearly not up to their job. Could someone please finally fire them? One of the reasons why some laymen may fail to get the point is that they just don't understand the technology, not even the simple argument above. They're waiting for journals.

That is, the very method used in Mann et al. (1998) guarantees the [hockey stick] shape of Figure 1. (Page 5)

Well, this point has been known at least for 7 years but maybe, some of the people suddenly start to take notice when papers with this no-longer-original finding start to appear in conventional peer-reviewed journals. It's sad that science has to go through these irrational political battles when nasty folks and aggressive crackpots of Mann's type - who should spend their lives in jail - may prevent knowledge from disseminating for 7 years. But even in the real world, the lies have short legs, after all. They can't get too far.


As I have bee saying for over three years ... when the very people who created the sampling and modeling methodolgies mock the work of their students because they see the misapplication of the theory and the falsification of results .... then you ought to have a clue about the integrity of those sources.

On Thursday afternoon, the ten groups that petitioned EPA to reconsider its finding that carbon dioxide emissions endanger public health and welfare received notice that the petitions have been denied. This was not unexpected.

The notice quotes the May 2010 report of the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences, Advancing the Science of Climate Change:

"[T]here is a strong, credible body of evidence, based on multiple lines of research, documenting that climate is changing, and that these changes are in large part caused by human activities... . Climate change... poses significant risks for – and in many cases is already affecting – a broad range of human and natural systems."

The June 5, 2010 TWTW’ Science Editorial discussed this report. “The report … claims that the climate is warming and that the cause is human.” “The first claim of this federally funded $6-million exercise is meaningless and trivial, the second claim is almost surely wrong. Their recommendation is that the United States should put a price on carbon to staunch emissions of CO2; it is pointless, counterproductive, and very costly.”

Clearly, the leadership for the National Academy of Sciences has placed that venerable organization in the camp of those demanding expansion of government power and control over the American economy. This entire exercise requires abandoning knowledge of the earth’s history.

The EPA notice opens with this sentence: “EPA determined in December 2009 that climate change caused by emissions of greenhouse gases threatens the public's health and the environment.” [Bold face added] The Constitution discusses protecting public health and welfare, not the more nebulous term the environment which could be used to justify regulation of virtually all human activity.

The response to the petitions is some 590 pages long. In addition to the NAS study the notice references other studies including the IPCC Assessment Report, the 2009 study by the U.S. Global Change Research Program and a NOAA study released on July 28, 2010, no doubt especially prepared for the occasion. Also the notice references the three British inquiries into Climategate, the Netherlands assessment of the IPCC report, and the Penn State investigation of Michael Mann. It will not be a quiet August for those who have petitioned the courts to review the EPA endangerment finding.


This fight is not over by a long shot!

Watt's Up With THAT?

So those intrepid and peer reviewed "scientists" at Goddard ISS had a little trouble with the numbers?

No problem .... just lose those pesky oceanic temperature readings!

Examine the Arctic and the ocean surrounding Antarctica, the Southern Ocean. Notice a difference? In 2005, the HadCRUT data had better coverage of the Arctic and Southern Oceans than the GISTEMP dataset with 250km radius smoothing. What’s missing in the GISTEMP product? There’s no sea surface temperature data.

And that's how they "Do Science" in the global warming camp.

You See? When researchers are able to provide their political masters with an excuse to give into blackmail for more funding and the tools to justify it to an ignorant and gullible public.... anything can be done.

Just ask Environment Canada .... they managed to lose just about every arctic and mountain high elevation recording from OUR data base.

If a climate scientist falls in the forest, does anybody hear? Not if the old media have anything to do with it. Thankfully, in 2010, their hold on the news has started to weaken. But it’s not like they didn’t try. For more than five months, from Nov. 20, 2009, to April 1, 2010, the broadcast networks did all they could to hide a crisis in the climate alarmist movement.

That first event, now called Climate Gate, has grown into a series of global warming scandals that have shaken faith in both the science we are fed on a regular basis and the scientists who do the feeding.

This week in Chicago, the Heartland Institute is bringing together the Fourth International Conference on Climate Change, a meeting of hundreds of scientists and policy experts who dare to challenge so-called conventional wisdom on global warming.

Instead of having a meeting, they should be having a celebration.

Not that they’ve won. They haven’t. But for the first time in many years, there is a public understanding that our daily diet of climate propaganda might be somewhat or even entirely bogus. That’s due in a large part to the embarrassments that came out of the initial Climate Gate report where e-mails from University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) were leaked to the world.

Those e-mails, and a separate document showing the shoddy data gathering done by those involved, included thousands of messages showing the potential manipulation of temperature data, a willingness to destroy information rather than release it under British Freedom of Information (FOI) law and the intimidation of publications willing to publish skeptical articles.

The most famous of the e-mails included this line for CRU Director Phil Jones to Penn State scientist Michael Mann. Climate geeks know Mann for his hockey stick graph of global warming, which has been key to climate alarmists and even cropped up in Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth.”

Jones wrote Mann, saying: “I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd [sic] from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.”

An e-mail from Kevin Trenberth, head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and lead author of three IPCC climate change reports, said this memorable comment: “The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't.” Oops.

While Jones had to temporarily step down, the left continues to try and white wash the whole episode.
