Labour Day ?

While the historical origins of the Labour Holiday in Canada has some significance and validity in the evolution of labour vs business relations ... the reality is that there are damned few who could tell you what those significant facts are.

In 1872 the Toronto Typographical Union's members went to the streets to protest for reduced working hours (58  hour week) and the Toronto Trades Assembly called on 27 other unions to go on strike in support of the typesetters.

The whole thing got messy  because Canada had laws restricting certain labour/union activities and the Toronto Globe Newspaper had an editor George Brown who was a past Premier of Canada West and founding father of Confederation had those laws enforced and about 30 organisers were arrested.

As a result in the following year the Liberal PM John A. MacDonald rammed the Trade Union Act through parliament and the slippery slope of escalating union demands and socialist government responses was entered with the predictable results which we are forced to suffer under to this day.

Accomplishments of the working man indeed!

Our Happy Socialist Paradise

There's a pet shop owner in Winnipeg who just got educated on how bureaucrats run free in a socialist state.

First water pipes to the shop freeze then the the shop owner fights for a month with the city to get them fixed. Then the shop owner goes to the media for support. Then the very next day the shop owner is investigated by the province for animal cruelty.

A Page out of Obama's Playbook

Maybe she should call PETA?

Third World Winnipeg

While we were away to Florida's Gulf Coast, a friend in Winnipeg was bemoaning the unrelenting cold that he was suffering from. Apparently, many areas of the city were experiencing frozen water mains and supply lines from the mains to the houses. Home owners were advised to keep a cold water tap trickling to allow water to move and stave off a completely blocked line.

After returning, we heard from some who were affected. They called the city works to be told that they were 800 on the list.

Now, granted there is no way the city can predict that the weather would remain so cold for so long. However, it is not a new thing and we've had similar problems before. In fact, there are locations that freeze and rupture almost every winter in this city.

The problem is not that the weather is unpredictable. The problem is that the city has consistently refused to perform upgrades and repairs in a planned and proactive manner.

Just one of the problems we share with decaying and corrupt shitholes around the world.

Oh! Canada ...eh?

Apparently .. at the PLQ party the other night some guy showed up in a bathrobe and Balaclava to spray bullets around on the street.

Perhaps this means there will be a outburst of demands to outlaw bathrobes and Balaclavas...?

Oh ... I almost forgot .... the IMPORTANT part of the news report is that he was heard speaking FRENCH with some sort of accent!

The horror.............

Give Me a Freekin Break Day

Today in the Province of Manitoba we are enjoying ... not necessarily "celebrating" ... what has been titled "Louis Riel Day".

The fact of the matter is that the whole reason for having a statuatory vacation day in the middle of February is based on one sole fact. Canadian winters in general really suck and that every one is in desperate need of a chance to break up the tedium of short days and shitty weather.

This February holiday business  all started with one of those meaningless "name a day" exercises where a government makes itself appear useful in some way by by placing an official stamp of  recognition on some event or idea ... no matter how irrelevant or meaningless in the larger scheme of things. You will often see these "days" highlighted on your wall calendars and possibly wonder just what the heck they mean or why they are highlighted in such a way. They also provide an opportunity for the empty meat deprived brain chambers of the public media to blather on ... thus filling up broadcast time print column space.

From Timeanddate dot com :  "Family Day was first held in Canada in the province of Alberta in 1990. It is supposed to reflect the values of family and home that were important to the pioneers who founded Alberta, and give workers the opportunity to spend more time with their families. Family Day was introduced in Saskatchewan in 2007 and in Ontario in 2008. One of the reasons for introducing Family Day was that there was a long period when there were no holidays from New Year's Day until Good Friday."

The impetus for adopting the February general holiday Manitoba ... our Happy Socialist Paradise ...the commissars of the NDP government chose to use the event as an exercise in Politically Correct propagandizing. This was done by holding a competition among school children to come up with a name and theme for our new sanctioned day off work. Of course, under the direction of those paragons of deep thought and historical awareness ... our public school administrations ... the inevitable result was achieved and we are saddled with yet another piece of official support for a man whose accomplishments are at best questionable.

But this is the way  with socialists. There is no fact or history that cannot by revised and used as tool to justify their own actions. In fact, there is seldom any action taken by socialists that is not done under the pretense of some such manufactured justification.
Which brings me to my point.
Why is it necessary that we go through such an exercise in the first place? Is it not sufficient to say that in the interest of public good ... that being good health and well being in the face of tiresome and wearying winters ... we the people of this northern nation deserve a break?

Do we actually NEED a government manufactured contrivance to justify doing what we chose to do for our own sake?

I for one ... am quite happy to take this day for what it really is and spend a day off work, free from my obligation to an employer, doing exactly whatever I feel like doing with my own time.
No contrived justification necessary.

BTW .... Metis Online has a trove of information about Riel related things.

For my part .... I'm spending some time wondering how many of these school children are ever taught about anything other than Riel centered history when it comes to Manitoba and the foundations of our province.

Greece ... Just Another Poster Babe for the Success of Socialism

Much ado in the media about the financial fiasco of the EU ... those of the same ilk that brought socialism to Europe in the past century ... those moral and intellectual superiors who schemed  and  enveigled their way into yet another great plan to impose a bureaucratic regime to govern the peasants of Europe.
And of course the inevitable result ... failure and discontent. Because ... all of Europe ... all of it...  is about failure ... failure is the zeitgeist that drives the European soul. Fear, loathing and avarice and the inescapable fact that Europe is failing. Europe has been failing since the 19th century ... the 20th century was all about the failure of Europe and the 21st is now about the final spasms of cultural death.
The inevitable result for a society that has abandoned the concept of responsibility for the security blanket of cradle to grave state management.

Which brings us to the topic of Greece. Without having embraced the totalitarian sort of state that those great 20th century successes were able to accomplish in hundreds of millions of dead peasants... the next-gen socialists of Europe ...like Greece ... have chosen the slow strangulation that comes from government dependence and reliance upon the meddling government .

Greece ... being a democratic nation ... has freely and willingly placed its life and lives of its children at the mercy of black hearted, self important and self serving bureaucrats within the borders of the nation and ultimately with the even more black hearted commissars of Brussels.

I'd say Greece has become another poster babe to highlight the success of socialism. And it looks good on them. But they have not learned anything from the experience so far.

Greeks do not actually care that they are broke. What they care about is continuing the free ride on the gravy train. And as much as they love to bitch about the demands of the EU and especially the evil Germans ... they have no desire to take responsibility for their own future.

The Germans are NO better. What they and the rest of EU care about is the faint hope of recovering something from the billions of E$ they have pissed down the sewer. Same goes for the pending Spanish and Italian debt defaults.

We should hope and pray that our own government can keep the hell out of this mess.

Election Year .....

So far this year I have recieved a property tax rebate of over $700 .... a government auto insurance(MPI) rebate of over $700 and now ..... Lower Insurance RATES?

Don't get me wrong .... I do like getting my own money back. But, let's face it people ... the reason this is all happening in 2011 is because the NDP have been in power for three consecutive terms ... 12 years... and without the "charismatic" Garry Doer to lead the political charge they have no hope in hell of hanging on to the public purse strings again.
So ... as per usual the commie dumasses resort to their usual bag of tricks which includes of course using the public's own money to bribe us and that other old chestnut ... conservatives are scary ... and Garry Filmon ... who has not been premier or even involved in the Manitoba PC party for 12 years.... cut the health care budget. Never mind the fact that   no one can point to one single positive result of  governance under NDP management.     Unless of course you are employed in the tax spending social services business.  After all there are union jobs to be protected in our happy socialist paradise.

So for all those suckers out there in the unions who helped contribute to this  election year largess through your contribitions to the commie gevernment ... thanks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RELATED>>>
Gord Steves  ..... my city councilor ..... has thrown his hat into the Provincial election ring as the Manitoba PC candidate for for Seine River!

Although this somewhat surprises me ... since I fully expected Gord to  move on  to federal politics ... I am pleased to see at least ONE new candidate with  demonstrated capabilities and experience in our future government.

Did You Celebrate May Day?

If you did then you are probably a useful tool or maybe even a willing agitator for the Commies....

I'm pretty sure that most of the NDP were out celebrating may day today .... maybe even by visiting massage parlors like their man Jack.

Maybe in our happy socialist paradise the term massage parlor will be correctly replaced with the term clinic?

Plan B

Just like the bolshies of 100 years ago the Europeons elite in Bruxels have no compunction about enforcing their power to suck the life out of all within their domain.....

Joe at !NoPasaran! .... picks up on a well written piece by A fellow named Gawain .... and makes this connection:

It doesn’t take much to understand the mind of a moocher who has an “in” with the ultimate monopoly: the state. It explains much about democrats in the US insisting that making public sector pay a minute part of their health insurance and pension themselves, is in fact, an “assault on the poor” or any number of other stock excuses for the parasitism that they always champion.

Much as we endure in our beloved Canada......

Our Happy Socialist Paradise

Awake now people and shout down those who would deny us our dream life.

Trouble is coming to the paradise of Manitoba.

The evil conservatives are raising their ugly heads in defiance of the people's will to challenge the rightful rule of the caring party of EnDePees.

Fortunately the righteous union of nurses has sent out the alarm and warning pamphlets to remind the peaceful peoples who may have forgotten (or perhaps never known) that Chief Evildoer ... Hugh McFadyen ... plots to overthrow the nurses from their rightful place in setting health care policy.

Good thing too ... because fellow peasants it is not as if our heath care system has not improved drastically in the last 12 years!

Oh yes! And be greatful too that Christine Melnik has awoken from her dream life of raising donations for libraries and attending teas at seniors homes. Yes, the mighty Christine has risen to don her battle garb and have her picture printed in many full colour pamphlets that will strike fear in the hearts of evil mongering conservatives in Riel.

Also the mighty leader ... the ever upright and honest .... Greg Selinger has arisen!

One can only hope that soon the war cry will arouse the Teacher's Unions and the CUPE unions and MGE unions and the student unions ... so that the great majority will will dominate and silence once again the rank noise of the individual, the self reliant centered, the haters-bigots-racists - homophobes-knuckle draggers. Yes silence once and for all those pioneer invader and thieve Manitobans who would deny us our rights! Who would let us freeze and starve as we beg for the return of our warm nanny's lap. Who would expect us to ...horror of horrors ... face up to our responsibilities.

No doubt ... this means that for certain .... we will remain as safe and secure as we ever were in this socialist paradise from the frightening evils of conservative thoughts .... conservative practices .... and conservative policy.

Because ... as we all know .... those things would make our lives so much worse.

Voting day in Progressovania

I wonder how the election is going....
With damned little to choose from us Winnipegers are at the polls today for civic elections.

I was really impressed with the turnout at my local polling station.
When I walked in shortly after work today the line was almost back to the door at two of the four registration tables.

It turned out the the main reason for the long lines was a couple of dufuses who couldn't figure out how the thing works wasting better than 20 minutes before they finally got tired of holding up a 100 or so folks. From the looks of things they were retired people anyway ... so just why the f@ck they had to wait until after 4:30 to go vote is beyond comprehension.

Anyway .... now I'm curious about whether all this apparent interest in civic democracy is about the fear of having a double dipping dipper for a mayor .... or ... that there are THAT MANY freeking idiots living in my neighbourhood who would be out voting for her.

Our Happy Socialist paradise .... on the verge of 4 years of Judy washerwasherwash.......or?

Well it seems we only have to worry about another four years of mediocrity..... Way to go Sam.

I'll have a beer tomorrow ......

Another Happy Socialist Paradise

Some guy who writes for Rolling Stone thinks that the people who lend the money are the problem:

Taibbi says that thousands of county employees now simply have to go without “so that Wall Street banks could be paid.” Politicians are now facing jail time. The place is bankrupt. Capitalism has failed the county, he claims, because even though corrupt government officials got them into this mess, it simply wasn’t fair for business to let them do it? Where’s the corporate responsibility?

Sure bud......

Safe InThe Arms of Our Zero Choices Medical System

Phee-yoo-ee! :O

Greg House was not in last night... and neither were any of his crew.

Just as well ... because the simple things are sometimes just what is needed.

Winnipeg First Responders were capable and efficient and ready with the real painkillers. I was lucky enough to get a few shots of fentanyl under the tongue and a narco-drip. Once in the EM ward... I got handled pdq .... and a new narcotic was deliverd.

Three cheers for the Winnipeg EMTs and firemen.

Morning brought in the day shift ... and the bureaucrat with a Md. on his name tag .... I suppose that it's not really his fault that policies say "Go back to your GP and tell him what happened."

Too bad the hospital refused to do any follow-up tests.... they could have ... I was already in the hospital .... but no ..... it's back into the queue to find out just what the hell happened!

Instead We get to involve a lot of other bureaucrats and doctors and spend three times the money.

I think maybe it is time for some health care tourism.

Our Happy Socialist Paradise - Olympic Fever

The ancient Greeks believed fire was given to man by Prometheus, and thought it had sacred qualities. Eternal flames that burned in front of Greek temples, flames were lit from rays of the sun. And so.... The Olympic flame is lit in front of the ruins of the Temple of Hera in Olympia, shining light on the eternal connection between the ancient and modern Games. Light, in fact, is considered to be associated with the concepts of truth and upright morality, purity of spirit and mind etc....

Got That? Sacred... Gift of the Gods... Eternal...Rays of Sunlight... Truth... Purity...?

Of course .... the spirit of the Olympics is secondary to the opportunity for local yokels, who deem themselves your betters, to get their own fat faces out of the trough just long enough to take a picture with the symbolic Olympic torch.

From the Winnipeg Free Press:

During its stay in Manitoba, before heading further west to its ultimate destination next month, the Winter Olympic Games, several notable people will carry the torch including Premier Greg Selinger, University of Winnipeg president Lloyd Axworthy, former Olympian Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, Ben Moss president Brent Trepel, Gail Asper and CTV/TSN host Brian Williams, who has covered the Olympics since 1976.

Yeah sure................... Manitoba's major Olympic sponsor is CanWest Media.

But ..... What's Eddie the Eagle doing here in Manitoba... with this bunch of turkeys??

The S#!t List!

What is wrong with our Happy Socialist Paradise?
Haven't we cared enough about the right things?
Are we not creating enough productive government jobs to make life better for everyone?
Did we not lay out a plan for developing our Hydro-Power resources in the best possible way?
Have we not created enough protection for workers?
Are our roads not taken care of?
Did we let someone's pension investments go down the toilet?
Did we not do enough to keep people from seeing it happen?
Did we not do enough to protect the guilty?
Have we not created enough policies to make every one well and safe?
Are the folks in the education business not being pandered to enough?
Are we allowing some child to go through school without having given them the correct perspective?
Do we not preach social justice like the religious endeavour that it is?
Have we not explained well enough how increased debt and dependency on handouts is balanced budgetary management?
What about Medicine?
Are we not spending enough?
Have we not funded enough bureaucratic managers to ensure that all Manitobans get the very best health care?
What has happened to our auto insurance?
Have not enough immobilizers been installed into intransigent car owners vehicles to make car theft disappear?
Have we not taken enough out of the MPIC bank account to force them to be efficient?
And what of crime?
Are we not being nice enough to the underprivileged and the marginally social?
Are our social services not doing enough to prevent parents from influencing their children?
Have we not taxed sinners enough?
Or need we invest in more casinos?
Have we not established enough rewards for mediocrity and have we not done enough to punish those uncooperative business owners and investors?
Have we not PROMISED enough care and facilities for caring and caring people to care for those who need care?
Have we not put our very best people and strongest minds to the task of managing our social services?
Have we not led the way in undermining those who oppose our progressive ways through manipulation of elections policy?
Have we not allowed those who have made mistakes with public trust and public funds enough chances to get it right?
Have we not acknowledged the rights of enough people who because they are not born of hateful white ancestors are undeniably victims in need of our attention and care?
Did we leave someone out from under the big tent of our social progressivism?
Did we in some way accidentally leave something that was working untouched?
Did we DO something or Change something that we must now pay for?

Why are our lives not perfect in the Utopian way that we were promised?
