Weather is NOT Climate

Yeah ... I know this!

But it happens all to often that climate hysterics are running around screaming about guys like me driving my truck and pointing to the temperature in their back yard as proof of it all.

Well today .... in Winnipeg we woke up to -28 C and watched the mercury climb all the way to -18 C.

Windchill will freeze your face in a few minutes either way .... AND ... the "warm south breeeze" is dumping snow on us now....

Math - Physics - Economics....

And the falsehoods of environmentalists made simple.

Think of it as

"How The world Really Works .... For Dummies!"

Tucker explained how Einstein's equation applied to renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and hydro. His lecture was a revelation. It showed that the limits of renewable energy have nothing to do with politics or research dollars, but rather with simple mathematics. During a later exchange of emails with Tucker, I praised his lecture and suggested he write an article that explained E = mc2 and its corollary, E = mv2.

S0 you can read the article and learn about why so called rebewable energy sources do not offer the benefits being touted by the politicized proponents.

In short they are for the most part ..... a waste of resources!

Believing Just What I Want..............

For those who've apparently missed the updates over the last two years .... that'd be you folks who get all your information from the MSM.

The trend lines are moving back to average or mean values.

For the mathematically challenged ...... that means you can probably expect them to go back to the other end of the scale as our normal cyclic weather patterns do their yin/yang dance.

Of course if you are stuck on stupid like the MSM then you will keep screaming about greenhouse gasses and carbon taxes, rising sea levels etc.

That is until the chicken littles of the science world all rush to the other side of their teeter-totter with the next "Imminent Ice Age" panic. Whereupon you will probably be looking for someone to blame for global cooling.

Things The MSM Don't Like to Mention

How convenient !

My take on the issue is that from the start the research that has been latched onto by the IPCC (UN) and the mainstream media has been selective.

The primary study that produced the infamous "Hockey Stick" graphs that displayed and then projected extreme global warming trends were used to link this to the man made production of CO2 They were suspect from the start.

Much of this goes back over ten years and it is only in the last 4 that what is commonly referred to as Mainstream Media (MSM) has been involved.

Since that original report was published there has been a convoluted chain of events in the scientific/publications arena that are not reported in the mainstream media. The common sources of news and information for the wider public have never presented the whole story and as a result what most people see or hear is a combination of selective facts, uninformed or even hysterical assumptions, misrepresentations and outright bullshit.

Various political bodies have taken what suits them and used it to promote their own interests for good or ill.

The original research has been thouroughly debunked and for the most part all those so called "consensus" scientists have either begun complaining about how they were duped or disappeared into the woodwork.

With the exception of a few of the most committed con artists, the scientific community is finished with the IPCC frauds and the zombie science that was used to prop them up.

This is barely ever noted in your news media.

I'm providing a link to a post I wrote citing several authors and their research...

http://ommag.blogspot.com/search?q=climate+

In that post one of the links provided a (lengthy) summary by a researcher and authour that attempts summarize this complicated fiasco....

http://bishophill.squarespace.com/blog/2008/8/11/caspar-and-the-jesus-paper.html

One of the references contained within that article that contains a large amount of data and scientific publication ....

http://www.climateaudit.org/

I would also direct your attention to this Scientist and and proponent of educated environmentalism who has made an affort to expose the frauds ....

http://antigreen.blogspot.com/

I know there is a ton of information to go through .... but if you want to know why I call bullshit on the entire community of global warming proponents and hysterics.. the answers are abundant.

I've spent a considerable amount of time sorting the BS out of the so called denier side of this debate as well .... and in my opinion the factual weight of the arguments is enough to tip the balance of argument.

That and the established fact that the chief proponents of global warming crisis have been exposed as frauds.

Liars figure and so do the figures of liars.

Even the intransigent BBC .... a chief purveyor of Climate Hysteria is backpeddling now:

Every Year ...

For the past 20 or so ... my Iris blooms.
Most years before May!

All those years the MSMers have been crying that it's unseasonal warm temperatures...

All those years it was hoped by some that this was a sign of the apocalypse.

All those years it was because I drove a full sized truck and an SUV or used too much electricity or some reason calculated to instill guilt.

All those years it was somehow ... someone's FAULT .... Even though My Parent's Iris's bloomed before MAY more often than not.

So in 2009 ... after all this tongue clucking and finger wagging ... June 19th is the day the Iris Bloomed.

Can I BLAME someone?

Funny How Facts Seem to Disappear

I was spurred into looking for this information today after reading ......

This ! article by CP.......

"Record cold wind chills of -50 C recorded overnight in Saskatchewan"
UNDATED - A fierce blast of snow and cold was making its way east into Manitoba on Sunday after triggering record low wind chills of -50 C and colder in neighbouring Saskatchewan overnight.

Wind chill warnings were in effect in both provinces throughout the day, prompting warnings from Environment Canada that exposed skin would freeze in less than 10 minutes.

Residents of Saskatoon woke up to the coldest temperatures since 1966, with a wind chill of -45 C, leaving the city shrouded in ice fog.

Because I lived in Regina in 1977 through 1980 and because I recall quite clearly that the winter of 1978 - 1979 was the coldest on record, having dropped to minus 30 C on November 11th and not getting above -28 from December through February. Specifically during the first two weeks of January '79 where we experienced consistent overnight lows in the range of -45 with daytime highs of no better than -39.

We had absolute temperatures of -45 without wind chill factors.

Somehow, Environment Canada has no record of this.

A Completely Unsubstantiated Conspiracy Theory

I believe in The Law of Unintended Consequences (TLUC)

You don't have to consider it as a real thing but I do ... as much as I believe in Murphy's Law. Perhaps TLUC is even a subset of the Murphies?

My interpretation: "The more you meddle in matters that have evolved into a balanced or relatively stable system the more likely it is that you will create unintended consequences."

In any case, from time to time it seems that doing all the right things and asking all the right questions gets us no where near where it is we hope to be. Today it was all started by reading about the trials a tribulations of T. Boone Pickens and his wind energy investment schemes..... which got me thinking about the role of "Big Oil" in the whole enviro-energy racket.

And led to the unlikely question needed to get past the obvious assumptions and the unoriginal answers:

Why do the zealots who have jumped on the Anthropogenic Global Warming Bandwagon always see "Big Oil" as the culprit behind the efforts to discredit them?

Hmmm?

I tend to believe that the types who are representative of the AGM boosters are almost always as wrong about just any issue they concern themselves with as they are about the one at hand and in question. No need to get into the motivations. Surely, some are honestly exploring the possibilities, some are venal and self serving and most are just sheep going with the flock. The bottom line is that the more they bleat the further they are from the facts and realities of the matter. The more sure they are of their accepted tennents the further from the truth.

So, bingo - bango - bongo ...... these guys are wrong or at least highly likely to be wrong about the role of "Big Oil" in the AGM argument.

The point then is if they are wrong or likely to be wrong on this matter then what is the role of "Big Oil" in the whole affair?

For one thing I can see that no matter what "Big Oil" really does or wants, it will be the target of hyperbole and moonbat venom. For another it certainly seems to me that the majority of debunkers, cynics and just plain skeptics are happy to put the effort into extracting the facts from the hype and letting the result be known for the personal gratification of getting to the heart of the matter and somewhat for the satisfaction of "Fisking" the con men and hucksters or especially the self professed "Experts".

This leaves the mysterious forces of the so called "Big Oil" cabal out of the anti-AGM argument.

But, certainly they do have a stake in any issue that may impact their ability to make money.
And just as certainly, for the same reasons they are "BIG" they are going to be on top of trends and political movements that come along. In no way do I see nor have I ever experienced high foreheads in the board rooms or the back rooms conniving over ways to incite financial turmoil simply because they are TOO BUSY doing the basic stuff that makes them money.

I do however envision such folks responding to business threats like competitive energy sources.

Which brings me to the theory of how Big Oil actually promoted the AGM issue and why they did it.

First of all well before the AGM gang got any momentum or public attention there was the issue of alternative fuels. Things like bio-fuels and Solar and Wind generation were around and being developed without much or any fanfare for at least 30 years. Environmental activists types naturally offering emotional and often nonsensical views of idealized results for widespread adoption seemed to be the source of most publicity for these developments. But, for the most part the average person really didn't care that much as long as the home was heated and the car fueled without upsetting the domestic energy budget.

However, and here is where the law of unintended consequences comes into play, the environmental activist gang was having a hayday going after polluting industries. A laudable pursuit. In the course of their battles they discovered one of the obvious facts (the kind that activists seem to be shocked when the discover) that a lot of electrical power in the US is generated by Coal. Of course "Coal Is Dirty" and therefore any use of coal must be so too and so on. And so coal became the pahria of the energy group.... leaving a lot of extra opportunity for the oil boys.

But here's the thing. In the process of demanding all sorts of limits be put on the exploitation of coal the power industry was put in the position of finding less dirty ways to use coal. Oil is NOT the fuel of choice for power generators. Coal is abundant and cheap which oddly enough seems to go hand in hand. Being abundant and cheap is what makes coal a good fuel for power generation. The ways to use the coal without the downside of massive polution and drawing the ire of the activists is the challenge.

What many people do not know is that over the last 30 years there have been a number of technology developments that make energy from coal not only an environmentally benign process but retain the economic advantages.

So here is where the "Big Oil" as AGM promoter conspiracy starts to incubate.
The environmentalists pushed on coal. The coal /power industry fought back with technology. The technology began to look like it was going to take coal out of the backwoods and into the mainstream and then "Big Oil" started to take notice of coal.

In the USA oil and natural gas are the largest sources of electrical power and heating. They are used more for this purpose than any others combined. They enjoyed the market advantage because of the perceptions of coal as a less suitable fuel. If coal became a fuel of choice it would mean a severe loss of market for petroleum fuels and this market. Not to mention that the loss of demand for petro-produced power and heat will put a severe crimp in the demand/ price power equations.

Fortunately for the petro-boys the AGM crowd started to get some momentum.

Being the students of trends that they are the petro club figured that if the AGM crowd got up some steam there would be the usual thrust of going after the obvious (coal) thus allowing them to continue to enjoy the run of the coop as it were in the power generation and home fuel markets. Not to mention the bonus of oil price panic as Washington helps out by impeding the development of coal and neglecting to fund clean coal initiatives while threatening expansion of oil resources and the unintended consequences keep piling up.

Who stands to lose from successful coal development? Oil. From the Arabian Gulf to Kazakstan, from Alberta to Venezuela from Houston to Anchorage to St.Johns ...... Who has gained from the AGM hysteria?

Yep "Big Oil".

So my theory is that the "Big Oil" guys have been quietly supporting and financing the AGM activists. Knowing full well what the reaction of the Dummies in Washington would be Exactly the opposite of the accepted wisdom from the activists.

Eh?

But How Will They Blame Bush?

OK .... I understand that this could get serious for the Gulf States .... but right now .... It's just chicken little bullshit from the MSM.

Now Orleans is getting nervous about the new hurricane brewing in the Caribbean.

"Gustav" is currently headed over to Cuba from The Dominican/Haiti ... Although there is no clear indication where it will go or what it will do the media are happy to raise the specter of Katrina and set off the alarms. Even Ray Nagin brought his empty noggin home from Denver to watch his "Chocolate City" get pounded once again.

Although I'm sure that residents like Steve Weaver, 82, and his wife who stayed for Katrina, and were plucked off the roof of their house by a Coast Guard helicopter. Will get out of town if necessary.
"Everybody learned a lesson about staying, so the highways will be twice as packed this time," Weaver said.

Or contractor Lawson "Sonny" Brannan, a construction company owner, who was busy renovating a client's home Wednesday. Brannan calmly went about his business, but nonetheless kept a watchful eye on the weather.

"I'm not going to worry about it until I see it in the Gulf," he said. "Then I'll make my decisions."

More here ...
Nervous New Orleans... yeah ....

They Call Themselves "Liberals"

But they're really just panderers to sanctimonious well healed hypocrites, business hating fools and socialist economy killers.

In yet another completely clueless move from the BC government ......

British Columbia slapped a moratorium on all uranium exploration !

Apparently for the BC government "Not Liking" a commodity is good enough reason to shut down an entire industry! Apparently all those regulatory control that the province has are of no value either. Else why the need to stop the EXPLORATION business?

Excerpt from the G&M article ....

".....But there remains the little matter of why the B.C. government felt the need to act with such finality, and so precipitously. It's certainly not because the government was convinced of any environmental or health peril posed by uranium mining. “Saskatchewan has proved, and is proving every day, that uranium can be mined responsibly,” Mr. Krueger says.

That might seem like a solid rationale for allowing carefully scrutinized exploration to proceed. Wrong. “We'll leave our uranium in the ground, and that's what the public wants,” says Mr. Krueger, adding that the Liberals have no intention of changing course later, come what may. “That's a forever position, as far as this government is concerned.”

The reason is simple enough. The public doesn't like uranium, therefore the government has banned it. A good deal of the public opposition has come from the direction of the Big White ski resort, which would be within sight of the proposed mine. And Mr. Krueger mentions that B.C. won't need the uranium itself, since it has no need for nuclear power...."

This isn't the first time the BC government has helped to put a nail in the future of resource industries. BC Kills Alcan plans to build Hydro facility!

Apparently optics and aesthetics outrank the importance of having an economic base. All well and good perhaps for well heeled retirees or out of province property owners who treat BC like their personal recreation area. Good too (maybe) for tourism operators who reap the rewards of that crowd. But, BC isn't sustainable as a retirement community or a tourist destination.

The hard reality is that Resource Development and Exploitation IS the business of BC and is what sustains the economy and puts roofs over the heads of the majority of BC residents and food on their plates.

And don't get me started on the forestry industry and the complete failure of the provincial government to deal with the pine bark beetle infestation and the bug wood fallout!

I predict that BC will soon be wondering why their economy is in the tank.

Weather Is News !

Indulging in Schadenfreude !

Given the large amount of snow we've had and especially in the last few weeks and given that we are about two weeks from the official start of Spring .... I can understand a certain amount of interest in how our Canadian Winter is evolving.

But! .... In my heart I know that this is CANADA where we are living and that we may well have ... Cold Weather and Snow and all the usual things that happen between the months of November and May. We may even have major snowstorms in May for that matter. It's all happened before and there is NO reason to think that it cannot happen again.

So, as I watch the news reports this morning where our intrepid CBC reporters are telling us how difficult things are in Ontario and how deeply weary those poor denizens of Ottawa are of the winter, I just cannot help experiencing a twinge of satisfaction at the lessons that are being imposed on those folks who seem to think that they are somehow immune from these realities.

For those stranded would be travelers who have had their larks to warmer climates postponed or otherwise interfered with ..... I admit to indulging in a small measure of satisfaction at the predicament. After all ..... those vacations are hardly matters of great import to anyone but the self indulgent folks who are affected.

Winter! May it last until it's over !

We in Canada are not immune from it no matter where in the country we reside or do business.
And just as a matter of fairness and to keep some otherwise oblivious people in mind of WHERE we live and the NATURE of our physical world ...... I say keep it coming!

From Winnipeg .... OMMAG

Just saw this morning that the Talking Heads at CBC figure they ALL Deserve a medal of Merit for "Surviving the Winter" ! Sheesh............ what a bunch of idiots.

Genius Weather Report from CP!

"Good old fashion deep freeze leaves teeth chattering across the Prairies" Says the headline...

Excerpt:

at 22:48 on January 29, 2008, EST.
By Tim Cook, THE CANADIAN PRESS

"REGINA - You want to know just how cold a -50 wind chill is? Try taking a glass of tap water outside.

The glass frosts up almost immediately and five minutes later the water has a slushy film on top. After a dozen minutes or so - if you can last that long - you've got an ice cube.

Now, there is a whole host of variables that would need to be considered to make this basic experiment scientifically sound, but one thing is clear.

It's quite literally freezing cold outside."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it was 15 degrees above normal for a week we'd have a headline that blared "Global Warming" or "Climate Change" affects prairie winter!

But when we get this cold stuff it's "Good Old Fashioned ......."

Water Water Everywhere!

But how much does it cost???

Near and dear to my heart is the subject of Clean Water and since today is "World Water Day" it seems appropriate to comment.

First, I'd like to say that there is apparently a plethora of groups and agencies that have decided to concern themselves with water quality. Some are interested in protecting existing sources. Some are interested in cleaning up already polluted bodies of water. Some are interested in getting water to where there is little or none. Some are interested in making water safe to drink.

It's the last one that has my interest more than anything because we have developed right here in Canada a few systems that use very simple and very old methods that can be combined with some new and sophisticated technologies to take just about any crap infested water and make it safe to drink.

The first is what is known as bio-filtration and it was originated by the Romans as far as I know.
In any case the principal is that there are organisms in all water that is contaminated that live off the contaminants in the water. It is so stupifyingly simple that I cannot see any reason that this approach is not used globally. You make a container and you put a drain in the bottom with a screen. You put some gravel on top of the screened drain and then put some sand on top of that! You put water in the top and wait for it to percolate through the sand. The water that comes out is nearly pure right from the start and in most cases safe to wash in if not drink. The next thing that happens is a bit of natures magic. As the system works over the next few days to weeks it becomes a prime habitat for those organisms that were mentioned previously. These little friends are presented with an over abundance of their favorite foods and besides growing in number from the steady arrival of newcomers start to multiply exponentially in their newly enriched habitat. The good organisms grow to such a mass that they will eventually plug up the tank but the water coming out gets more pure all the time! The mass which is called a schmutzdecke is easily cleaned up by scraping off the top of the tank and the flow through the system can be restored by taking some clean water that's been saved and pumping it back through the sand tank. Very little work for the benefit of sustaining clean potable water.

The true beauty of the bio-filter is that for low tech environments the whole thing can be done using manual water handling!

Now! I ask this: With the millions upon millions of dollars being spent to improve conditions in undeveloped regions of the world, WHY is this technology NOT being taught and deployed across the board?

Where are the NGOs and other supposed helpers and what are they doing?

Look up - Slow Sand water filter- or - Bio-filtration-

Ok! So What Would YOU Do If ??

Like Suzuki was asking the children on his cross Canada eco-propaganda Tour.
I want to ask you "What would you do if?" only I'm not going to make it a childish political "what if "by having you try to imagine what a Prime Minister of Canada needs to do about environmental issues.
As Dr. Suzuki is really involved in a crusade to bring the uninformed into the political debate without adding any value or helping to actually INFORM anyone I think there's an opportunity to do what this leprechaun of enviro-hokum is not doing.

I would like to ask You to offer your opinions about what could be done to address the issues at hand without any preposterous assumptions about our political reality.

What can be done? What would you do if you could?

I have some ideas of my own and I can assure you that they do not involve taxing our economy to subsidize economic growth in Asia or elsewhere.

Shoot:
