Canada's National Broadcaster unfailing in their efforts to pull the weight for the opposition parties says that this is not a good thing or an accomplishment. No Way!

Instead it's obviously Proof that Harper Lied to Canadians about setting up a Parliamentary Budget Officer and forecasting economic performance.

Of course the tax surplus .... it's got NOTHING to do with an economy that is Outperforming all expectations!

Of course the CBC itself cannot recall that they were predicting doom and gloom for our economy ever since the Conservatives were elected... and in fact are still pushing opinion that we are in big economic trouble.

Nope ...to the CBC it's all about Harper being a liar and a hypocrite.

If France had control of it's own economy it could lower interest rates ... which would provide the dual benefit of reducing debt load and generating more tax revenue through economic stimulus. Not to mention a lower currency would help promote exports and improve trade balances. Unfortunately , France has submitted it's economy's control to the will of the EU.

It began with Greg Lemond, it continued with Lance Armstrong and it will end with Floyd Landis!

No not the ability of Americans to develop world class cyclists who dominate the sport or will be seen a favorites to win the Tour De France......

I'm talking about the vendeta that the French sport organizers have been engaged in to smear and steal the thunder from US athletes.
It was hard enough on the Gaulic egos in that France was incapable of producing such athletes themselves and that other European nations were dominating the great bicycle race continually.
But the arrival and success of savages from America was just too much for them.

LeMond, Armstrong and Landis were slandered by the European press and the subject of many accusations of doping and steroid use. The French members of the board governing the race never missed a chance to attack the American winners and there was more than a little evidence of TAMPERING with drug tests by the organization. When it came to them PROVING that any of these athletes were cheating to win the French continued to strike out.

That is until Floyd Landis in 2006.......
They've made the charges stick and in this case I'm not sure that Landis is innocent.
Unfortunately...... given the history of the French and European sports organizations and their demonstrated willingness to do ANYTHING to embarrass the Americans ..... I will never be convinced that Landis is guilty!

However..... once the dust has settled from this there will be NO WAY that these guys will ever get away with a false accusation in the future. The rest of the worlds cycling community will be watching like hawks and the processes employed to monitor and regulate the testing will never again be compromised without the guilty parties being exposed.

So while I'm sure there will be gloating and wine spilling in France when Landis is forced to return his Tour medals and trophies ...... it will be the last time it happens.

BTW - I think the Tour is the most grueling sports event in the world and I've got a lot of respect for the competitors and the champions - From all backgrounds and nations - Because in each mile they ride there is only the rider and his bike - the nation they come from, the sponsors and teams that support them, even the fans that cheer them - do not push the peddles or bear the pain of depleted muscles and strained hearts and lungs.

Toronto Gets Another Car Chase - CTV Blames Police!

Last night in Toronto the Immaculate a couple of thugs committed an armed robbery and tried to flee the scene with City Police in pursuit. They went up the 401 and back south into Scarborough neighbourhoods where the chase ended in a gun battle leaving one criminal shot and another apprehended.

CTV News reporters bring up the fact that another recent case of police pursuing a fleeing vehicle left a 17 year old dead. They go on to characterize the chases as being rare the fact is that they are certainly NOT rare.

They then go on to make much of statistics about injuries resulting from police chases and essentially blame the police by implying that law enforcement is Responsible for the damage and dangers.

In the entire report not once do the CTV talking heads identify the criminals involved as what they are. Instead the terms used are "17 year old" and "Young Men" or just suspects, that imply the "Victims" here are the just a bunch of kids who are being chased.

The anchor twit's insightful question: "Why were so many shots fired?"
The Twit in the Field's response: "Well that's exactly the question!"

CTV - always with the intelligent analysis and insightful commentary! And, right there to whitewash the criminals and absolve the thugs of all responsibility. Right there to put the blame on the police.

I swear that the only person with half a brain at CTV in Toronto is the Weather Guy Jeff Hutchison!

1 - Articles based on Press Release from Syria claiming Israeli Planes infringed the air space of Syria! Most implying reckless adventuring by Israel's air force / pilots....
2 - No comment from Israel............ Inferring the usual sabre rattling BS out of Syria.
3 - Details of where the Israeli planes were and that they performed a strike! Speculation and fuzzy claims of Iran / Syria / Hezbollah connection involving arms for the Terrorists.
4 - Now more speculation Linking North Korean Shipments to Syria with past activities where
NK rocket components followed the same route.

Given Israel's history of striking when it becomes necessary and the fact the every such past attack they have undertaken has proven to be well founded by the seriousness of the threats posed, I'm inclined to think that this event was well justified whether or not nuclear materials are involved!

Although this is not the old Carling product of my youth it IS a much better beer than what the old Preston Ontario brewery kicked out.
This has a nice aromatic hoppiness to it with a little bit of the old time sour fruit in the background .... not unpleasant at all! It's just enough to invoke memories for those of us that have them .... but good enough to stand on it's own. This is a decent beer.
Clear and golden without a lot of head .... good on the palate ... clean finishing.
A very well balanced and refreshing beverage!!

So when it was subsequently revealed that the information had been distributed among team members the only conclusion to be drawn was that Ron Dennis (the team principle) and the McLaren staff had not been completely truthful.

The good news for McLaren is that the monetary fine may yet be reduced and both drivers ...
Defending F1 Champion Fernando Alonso and F1 rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton will keep their hard earned Driver's Championship standings of 1st and 2nd (to date).

This being Formula One ..... conspiracy theories abound.
Insiders acknowledge that espionage is practiced consistently as teams seek to gain technical and tactical information from each other. Some of this is even above board with cooperative deals and information sharing in specific areas. BUT it is certainly NOT only McLaren that gets approached by members of other teams hoping to trade information for money or positions.
It is illegal! But it is also common.
How many other investigations have been made by the FIA?
Speculations Abound :
1- Ron Dennis, Team McLaren head honcho is the head of the constructor's association.
He has been at odds with megalomaniac F1 Head Honcho Bernie Eccleston over a number of
issues! This leading some to ponder whether there is an element of retribution that goes
well beyond the actual issue of spying.
2 - It was a put up job by Ferrari! The team with it's long history of suspected Machiavellian
machinations somehow motivated the two employees to act as the bait in a 'Trojan Horse ' operation.
3- Any combination of the above including participation in the plot by the big spending
Toyota and Honda teams who are blowing through money faster than anyone else
with little hope of seeing any reward through the pointis system with a clearly dominant
team taking home all the bacon all the time!

But these are just products of the rumor mill and sticking to facts alone we have McLaren acting in self interest and breaking both F1 rules and civil laws.
They could still end up facing charges!

IMO - The $100 million fine is going to go away and so it should, because losing the constructor's championship will cost them that much anyway. I see the combination as being overly punitive.

Nortel Exec's Charged by SEC

In the 2000 meltdown of telecom and tech business there were quite a few BIG fish that got taken down. Bernie Ebbers of Worldcom comes to mind as do some non-tech scammers and frauds .

Well right from the start the Nortel brass was in the thick of things.

What happened was that Nortel's sales were known to be going away because ALL their customers were finished with their current capital investment plans that involved the hardware made by Nortel. There was NOTHING in the pipe for Nortel and they should have told everyone that was the case.
Instead of the company reporting this fact to the shareholders and the public as public corporations are required to do they chose to keep it quiet and issued optimistic reports of continued growth in sales.

That is until after a number of senior exec's exercised stock options and unloaded $100+ shares ....... it was shortly after that the questions about the sales forecasts and earning reports came to light and the stock took a dive to somewhere around $2 a share...... screwing over investors and employees in a BIG way.

It did not take the SEC long to start an investigation..... BUT what the heck has been happening for the last 8 years?

His Blog 'Death's Door the View from the Spanish Announcer's Table' one of my favorite reads.
Almost daily Greg found some offbeat piece of news to comment on or just offered his unique perspective in commentary on mainstream events. Even just everyday life events and trivial little details came alive with his perspective.

Greg was a real character ( read his bio or backtrack his blog history) with a real ability to write from his own POV and make it interesting. His unique style obviously came straight from the heart but certainly did not bypass the intellect on the way to the digital ether.

US Couple Survive Week In Northern MB !

Canoe Trip goes bad.... A pair of canoeists from Washington state survived six days lost in northern Manitoba by eating insects and plants before being found by rescuers last week.

Good news story! For sure if you get lost on the Churchill River Between The Pas and Hudson's Bay you could be in a world of trouble and pain. It's a good thing they studied survival guides for the Canadian Wilderness.

"They were … surviving off of vegetation they could find, such as water lilies. They ate a water bug, they found different kinds of mushroom," Says Kevin Choy, of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA).

They had mosquito nets at least! Although that's more of a personal comfort thing IMO.... I wonder if they even had Moskol?

Now word however on how long they had planned for their expedition or what other equipment or precautions they had taken.

For One Thing - I'd be packing one of THESE ! with This ! for a backup! ( These alone would make it virtually impossible to get lost! )

* One of These !
( Which would make getting FOUND a virtual cinch! )

* At LEAST One of These ! ( Which would completely eliminate the food problem given the abundance of fish where they were ! )
* And Finally - One of These ! ( Which would make ANY threat of animal encounter into a Food Opportunity ! )

Now .... given that if these two people had been Properly equipped they would not have gotten lost in the first place. The fact that they were apparently unprepared kind of tells me that this was a case of Darwin's rules being narrowly skirted by someone who just avoided through luck ....becoming a statistic !

Because when you are properly prepared...... getting lost and being forced to eat bugs and weeds is not going to happen!

These people are just a couple of lucky idiots!

Who should have contacted one of These ! and used their guiding service ..... either that or stayed home.

This speedboat has a supercharged, open exhaust big block fed by two four barrel carbs ..... which probably has more than 500hp to offerand could be over 1000 ........ the only problem ......... a little breeze and some surface chop means you can't even begin to use it.

Not to say that going 100 knots or better would not be fun to do ..... but .... this thing would barely turn around and got passed easily by my friend's ski boat .


The guys who were running it were giving rides to people from the campground for about 45 minutes....... this thing is louder than a freight train though and that had a few cottagers reaching for their phones to get the parks people to shut it down.
I suspect a couple were reaching for their firearms ...........

By the way - My friend's son was driving his ski and boat DID pass this thing doing about 50knots then drove circles around it ... with a 15 yr old girl riding a tube behind!

Pretty much the truth. As I've said a number of times, I do not believe for a moment that Vladamir Putin is anything other than a want to be Jo Stalin.
Everything he's done has lead in the direction of decreased democratic opportunity and increased powers for state totalitarianism. Add to that the sabre rattling and the blatant distribution of military technology to every avowed enemy of the US ( And That Means You TOO Sheeple of Canada) and you've got the perfect recipe for cold war ver.2!
This round table discussion at Front Page Magazine supports my view that the Russians under Putin are wholly intent on playing the spoiler to the success of Western enterprise and democracy.

Ms. Chretien worked with the Liberal caucus research bureau and as special assistant to Mr. Chretien when he was prime minister. She joined Foreign Affairs and International Trade six years ago and has held various jobs, including deputy chief of protocol and director, diplomatic corps services, and director, Korea and Oceania division. She was criticized when she moved to Foreign Affairs -- one Toronto paper suggested she was quietly given a $94,000 job without writing the foreign service exam. At the time, Conservative Senator Marjory LeBreton criticized the move, saying, "It's proof that [Mr. Chretien] views the whole government and all its departments ? as his own personal fiefdom."

Well for starters I'm not sure that this: "Stephen Harper's Conservativegovernment" is exactly the right way to describe OUR Elected National Government!

But on the other hand I do see a certain logic to sending a Liberal - especially a Chretien connected one to that hotbed of graft and corruption that is Nigeria!

Wednesday IS Hump Day!

And today's HUMP is an organization known as The ACLU ! Who at every turn and opportunity will work their very hardest to undermine the efforts of the United States of America to protect and secure it's people from criminals and low life of all descriptions. Bashing the institutions of the US is their favorite game and undermining the freedoms of the US constitution under the guise of holding out for the defense of that backbone set of laws the favorite tactic. Now with their teeth bared in hatred of the US military they are taking up the cause of "protecting" foreign entities by invoking US law!

Never mind the fact that US civil law has NO transnational validity or sway over military operations.

The real goal of the ACLU is to act as a 5th column against the interests of the American military the Presidency the Constitution and therefore by extension The American People.

To the mavens of the ACLU it is the US itself that is evil and they work tirelessly to remake it into the Socialist Utopia they dream of.

Never mind that should they ever succeed it will be the destruction of the greatest democracy and force for good in this world that has ever existed.

Labour Day - Big Whiteshell

Big Whiteshell Lake - MB "Sunday Morning Sunrise"


This Annual get together for 4 or 5 families is quite a blast!









The Lake is a cold one and only really hot weather gets us in the water except for maybe some tubing.

This year's weather was a mixed bag starting out really hot (30+ ) on Friday and Saturday.... finishing out in the teens on Sunday and Monday.

Some sun some rain and on Saturday evening a T-storm went by..... but we all had a real good time! Saying goodbye to Summer......

BTW - The Red Cap that came in the 24th special anniversary Stubbies was really good.... nice hoppy beer with a good balance of malt.
Thanks to the Brick Brewing co. for bringing that one to the market....and thanks to Cory for making those trips to Kenora Brewer's Retail to find it for me!!
